Arnold is 8 years old today!

Happy 8 years of living Arnold! Laurie you've done a great job providing care and a life of comfort and love. This Cham has lived for 8 years because of your constant Carr and attention to detail. His living life is a tribute to your hard work Laurie. Great job!

Its so neat to see an aged chameleon. I have a few questions about him and his behavior.

How often does he poop?

Is the tip or his nostril and lower lip inflamed slightly due to age?

What other physical and behavioral changes have you seen in an older chameleon like Arnold?

What a fantastic old gentleman! So distinguished looking. Clearly he has had a great life so far.

That is terrific! Happy Hatch day Arnold! Laurie take a bow for a doing what a reponsible pet owner should do- Many years of great care :)

Laurie, this greatly increases my respect for you. I know you will make the most of every day you have left with him.

I really don't take credit for Arnold living a long life. I haven't done anything different than I did with other chams who died fairly young.

Arnold poops every 3 to 4 days. But all he eats these day is 1 super a day. What you see on his nose is a basic nose rub. He has done that all his life. He has rubbed his nose on almost everything he has been near, including me. If I can find the disk with the pictures before this mac was bought for me, I can post picture of him as a juvi, and show his nose rub just keep going.
The lip could be the fact that he was treated for mouth rot about a month ago. He has not had a easy past few months.

ahh the mighty Arnold is 8!!! so happy he is such a tough cham, i think t is great that you have had 8 woderfull years with him.
i know you are always worried about the sweet boy and love him dearly.
happy 8th bday, even if im a day late lol

Awe how special to have 8 years together!! It shows how wonderful his care has been. Each day is a gift and I know you appreciate each and everyone you have!!! :)

Thanks for seeing my old man still have a lot to offer. He is just the sweetest cham. He has aways been that way. He always tried to take off outside but that is pretty normal. Hope he still has the spirit to take off on me this summer.

How many years is that in Cham years? By my calculations he should be roughly 112. I hope you've filed for Social Security benefits for him!!! LOL Congrats Laurie!

Thats amazing 8 years old!! hope there are many more years!

btw he is sooo beautiful!! i love the pic of him outside!

Happy Hatchday Arnold

Laurie, do you find he has trouble keeping warm? I have found my old guys seem to stay cooler (by touch and heat gun reading) than when younger, despite easy access to basking area.

Arnold stays up near his basking light most of the time. I would put in a hotter bulb but can't when he stays that close. He moves across the cage away from the light but never really seems to "leave" the area. I had not even considered that as a by product of age. I have had a few older chams but nothing nearly as old as Arnold.

What do you make of the fact that me has lived on super worms? I hated to even admit that as I don't want a bunch of people thinking it is ok to do that. I have had to make sure his supplement we appropriate at all times.

Hey Laurie, any pet getting your tender loving care would live a long time! Great job you are doing with him.

Happy hatchday Arnold, sorry it's a little late :) What a grand old man, he must be very happy even if he does look a bit grumpy

I wonder if circulation is an issue in old chams as it can be in old humans.

I think that he has lived that long on superworms suggests (and I've heard of a couple others similar) that you gutload well, supplement well, water well, and that chameleons are more reslient to limited prey selection than I care to admit! :)

I also will feel a little less guilty that my current oldest is getting a much higher number of superworms these last few months than I ever would permit normally. He really loves them, I gutload pretty well, and his weight is dropping, and he is old, so...
