Attaching branches with magnets?

I've read somewhere that some people use magnets to attach branches to the screen of their cage. I'd love to be able to do this.

How do I go about it? What's the best glue to use to attach the magnet to the wood? Should the end of the branch be roughed up first?

Also, where's the best place to get strong magnets? I got some awhile back at Michaels, but they're definitely not gonna be strong enough.

Thanks a bunch.

look up neodymium magnets. a little pricey, but definately wont ever fail on you. even if you wanted them too. lol

Pet Tech MagNaturals Replacement Magnet is a great magnet for attaching branches and they can be purchased from LLL Reptile for $3.

I wouldn't suggest roughing up the surface of the wood before gluing because then you have less surface contact. I always go smooth as possible.

I hope this all helps!

yes neodymium magnets are well worth the cost. You can pick up packs of a dozen at home depot of lowes. They will hold up and support the weight of your cham. As said before be sure to scratch up the surface of the brach and the surface of the magnets, so they are not "smooth" so they will not slide. Remember the more friction the better.

You can use silicon or hot glue, no problem.

The method I use is I will drill an indent in the end of my braches that matches the diameter of the magnet and then put glue in the indent and stick the magent it.

Im sure there are plenty of other methods out there I just know that works for me.

I use stainless steel wood screws and washers, pre-drill the branches and away you go. It's unlikely you will own a cham that will be too heavy for the screen. Plus you can cut interesting angles and run from back to side for corner branches, etc. If something might be a bit unstable just wrap a vine on it.

I do the same with some of the branches, but the top ones, like the basking branches, I have to move sometimes, like up or down, depending on room
temp, so I just use thumb tacks for those.

You can get a bunch of tiny neodimium ("super magnets") from Amazon for
pretty cheap, and they come in all shapes and sizes.
I use them to stick feeder cups in my cages.
I also use them to hang cage covers at night. Just glue some metal washers
(cage is not magnetic) all around the top, front and sides, cut some cheap
black bed sheets to the right size, and hang them up on the cage with the
magnets at bedtime.

I just use thumb-tacs! Or push-pins if you want them to be removable. One or two on each end will hold up a Meller's without ruining the screen.

you rough up the surface so the glue has more bonding power. you don't have to go crazy with it just make sure the surface is not shiny.
