Auto feeder for Reps?

Anyone know of, or have ever heard of an automatic feeder that could be used to feed chams? Think I found one for every other animal online but reptiles in general. So assuming not...

Something like that would be useful if leaving for a couple days, just wondering

How many auto feeders have you found for other animals that dispense live food?

I think that might be the reason why there isnt one for chams.

If you could design one.. you would likely make a pile of dough.

if you search well enough there's a link in some post that shows somekind of circle shaped thing that you set on a timer and it spins so that a 'slot' opens everytime the timer goes off or something like that, hard to explain but I guess it could be used to release a couple of crickets every day.

Thats exactly whats on my mind, but would have to be larger for them to survive. there would also have to be room for food and way t dust them just before release would be hella cool too :p

Well that could prob work if it was only bigger. and you could split the dish in two and put two knids of food for like owrms and then crickets. Also if the cricket food has cal supplements or vitamins in it the cricket wont have to be dusted hell be gut loaded enough already. Im really interested in this i wish i could try to build one but i couldnt get the stuff for it. if anyone could try to build one and it worked i would probab;y buy it im always very busy and this could help soo much.

Never saw an auto feeder but I used to take a transluscent cricket keeper used for fishing and stock it with crix before going away on short vacations. I could put about 50 -75 crix in and I had watering crystals and dry gutload for them. I would put a little roof over their heads to keep out water and in the container I would pile several pieces of eggcrate to keep my cham from having access to all crix at once. Since they mostly stayed around the gutload the cHam could only shoot them when they ventured out around on the eggcrate. I tested this for a week while at home to be sure things would go ok and it worked fine. I used it any time I might be gone for four or so days and had a sitter check things out once to be sure all was right.

i dont think any auto feeder could ever work for a chameleon. i think it is just impossible. it could work, but it would not be as healthy for the chameleon. the problem of feeding and keeping the crickets or worms or whatever alive for days with little food or water could kill the feeder insect. or lets say the feeder insect eats all its food you place inside the container. that feeder wouldnt be as good to feed your chameleon as to a cricket that is properly gutloaded 24 hours in advance. and with the issue of dusting is also impossible as well. getting the proper amount of calcium or vitamins could very and be to much or to little. their is only one feeder i think that could work, and that would be phoenix worms because they dont have to be gutloaded and are so high in calcium they dont need to be dusted. if you could successfully gutload the feeder inside the auto feeder and somehow dust it, i would be very impressed, and would like to see a video and know how much it cost because i would want one. but i dont think this is a logical idea, sorry if i sound rude. anyways you if keep trying you could get this to work, i could be wrong about the hole thing. anyways good luck, i really would like to see something like this working as ive said, if you could find a way for this to work, you could make some money, lol.

here is what i have been tryin as a simple auto feeder: i made a plastic jug feeder with the screen patches that crix can climb on, they mostly can't escape. i just cut a hole in it and 5 minutes + a little duct tape later i have a cup feeder attached to a kricket keeper tube. feed the tube to the actual kricket keeper that sits outside the cham habitat. keep eggshells, gutload, collards, etc etc in the keeper and get a steady stream of available crickets. depending on how many you put in there you can also add or subtract empty tubes to somewhat control the rate that crix will come out. i have had the week off to keep an eye out as i tried this new setup and the crickets will go up into the cup feeder and mostly back down into the tube if not eaten. my cham eats a couple more crickets than i would offer him, but he is also juvenile and just gettin to where i would upgrade his food at 5-6 months anyway, so pretty normal. he definately has not been overeating though he has had the chance to.

in the morning he hunts down the couple crickets that managed to escape at night, and every few hours will go back to the feeder for one or 2 more. i have only been tryin this for 4 days now but i have been watching closely and it seems to be working pretty well

i don't think this is what they are looking at it for. if i were to use an auto feeder it would only be when I am out of town for a few days. if you make sure your cham is getting all the right supplements before and after those few days they should be fine.

Hey ... some of these ideas sound really cool. We need some pics though to help visualize what these posts are describing. That automatic feeder in the link should work for 3 or 4 days with silkworms. All you'd need to do is put a clump of silkworm chow in with them and it should last them a couple days.

the thought did cross my mind, but it's so incredibly simple that i highly doubt anyone would actually pay for it ;) esp. anyone who already owns a kricket keeper, a cup feeder or plastic jug, and some duct tape lol

I'll be waiting for those pics! This sounds quite doable. I'll be away for a week in Dec. and my critter sitter's husband was just diagnosed with cancer so do not know if I will have anyone to feed Cyrus :( I think I can get everyone else into brumation and a neighbor to pop in and feed my frog. Cy's humidifier should take care of water, but he can't go a week without food (although sometimes he chooses to )

I've got one of those and they're kind of a pain in the butt to use! I think they should have made the top come off instead of the bottom. I'm not sure that they would be good for more than a couple days worth of feeding.

sort of, but that thing is kinda small, you can't hold a multiple days supply of crix with thier food and water supply in there. that is really similiar to the cup feeder by itself. this is a cup feeder with a tube attached to the cricket housing and thier cubes, gutload, veggies, whatever you use.

i uploaded the pics, as soon as they are available i will put them in a post. please note that my kricket keeper is nearly empty in the pics, i really suggest using an extra capped over tube or eggcrate or anything to give the crix another option than the real feeder tube... it will keep the crix from all going into the feeder at once, give you a slower rate. once the cricket supply gets low you can remove the eggcrate or shake out and remove the empty feeding tube / hiding place / whatever you have in your cricket setup :)
