Automatic Misters?

Okay automatic Misters pros and cons for:
-MistKing starter kit?
-Habba mist?
-Any other misters you know of?

Mist king is supposed to be #1, but Habba mist is $40 cheaper.

We have a Mist King and it is built very solid. I would recommend it to anyone in need of a good mister.

Isn't habba mist more of a spray of water instead of a fine mist?

I love the Mistking's fine mist. And so do my chams. All the chams that hated being misted with a more forceful sprayer adore this system, and will stand under the nozzle facing it when they know it's about to come on. It's a worth it investment, if you ask me.

Also, I don't know if this is true for the hubba, but the mistking system can run up to 15 nozzles at once. So in the future if you get more chameleons, all you need is another $14 nozzle, instead of another $50-60 system for that new cage.

It does spray more than mist, similar to misting with a spray bottle. The habba mist, imo is hardly able to create enough pressure to mist the one nozzle, much less additional nozzels. I agree that it would be worth the investment to upgrade right away.

I bought the habba mist first trying to save money too, in the end bought the mist king. Just wasted money on the habba mist first and a lot of head aches.

100% Mistking! Everythings have alrady been said about it, ecxept the fact that it can run dry and do not cause damage to the pump, so if you forget to check your water you will not burn your pump. :D The mist look similar to the one in some grocery store in the fruit and vegetable.

Gotta say mistking is very nice. I do not have nor have i had a habba mist but i am a huge fan of the Mistking system.

They're definately worth it. I was also really hesitant to spend $150 on a system that sprays water. I thought it was too expensive for the effort it saves you. But I was wrooooong! lol Now my chameleons are heathier and more hydrated than before I got the system, and they have have a strict schedule without having to depend on me to drive home on time, remember, etc.

I think so, yes. Some people don't and rely on lots of really short mists during the day. But I hold the opinion that chameleons do better with longer showers (something like 15 minutes, twice a day, with a couple 3-5 minute ones in between) because they have more chances of drinking, and it's more rainforest-y.

So if you're going to long mistings, you will definately need a drainage system. If you just have one chameleon, I would look into the drainage trays stores like LLLReptile sell, that fit right under your cage (you have to drill holes in the bottom of your cage anyway). All you do with that is drill a hole in the bottom so that the water collects in the tray and it drips into a bucket under it or something like that. You can also be creative and design your own system (often times cheaper and better because you can customize it).

For example, you can build a table with the center cut out, and with a couple holes in the cage bottom, and a bucket under everything. The bottom of the cage would slope downwards under the weight of the plants and the water will fall neatly from the cage to a bucket. And this you just throw out once or twice a week.

Just to hijack this thread slightly - I have just got my new baby cham and for the minute perfectly happy to mist him manually but my OH is building his big boy viv and would like to integrate a mister to make our lives a little easier and make sure the little man gets all the hydration he needs.

We are looking at mistkings but one thing I cant find out is....what temperature is the air that it sprays....room temp?
I have been advised to use slightly warm water for my misting so as not to bring the temperature of the viv down to much . But I cant find out if the mistking warmed the water up or just feeds in standing room temperature water - being in the uk, room temperatures can get quite low if the central heating is not on??

Thanks
Michelle

The mistking does nothing to the temperature of the water, but it has an easy fix. I went out and got an aquarium heater at a petstore for not very much. They sell them in different sizes (depending on the gallons of the tank, so if your resevoir holds 5 gallons, then there will be a heater for a 5 gallon tank.) And it will raise the resevoir temp to over 90 F (32 C) so the water sprays out warmer than room temp. You can get a bigger one though and heat up the water more so it comes out luke warm or a little warmer.

There are definately ways around that. Any aquarium section of pet stores should be able to help you find exactly what you need. Hope that helps!

Thats brill thanks. :D

Will get my OH on the job........x

I also had a Habba and it was junk. It worked well for the babies in between hand misting. I purchased the Mr Moisture from LLLreptile and it is very similar to the Mistking.
