Babies, babies and more babies

For Christmas this year I am getting a big surprise. I checked my incubator and much to my surprise I found some early neonates - panthers, veracosas and veileds. WOW! I am going to be kept really busy for the next couple of months. I have never been Mommy to panthers and veracosas so you will find me hovering over them in the reptile room. LOL

I am trying to find some information on veracosa chams. If anyone has a source could you please pass it along?

Holy babies!
Merry Christmas!
How many babies have hatched right now?

... And where are the required pictures!?!?!

Can't wait to see the verrucosus! I'd keep them just like the veileds, nothing special, and they aren't montanes. You've raised deremensis so these should be no problem :).

Wondered when you were going to chime in. Of the two clutches only the one is hatching and the little panther eggs are hatching. I am so surprised. I didn't think they would, but one can never tell. I'm hoping they all do. Wish I knew what kind they were. As they get older you will have to take a look and see if you can tell what they are.

From my experience F. verrocosus are a warm weather chameleon that tends to be on the shy side. As all my adults and even the babies were shier than most all of the chameleons I have kept in the past. I would keep them warm in a larger than average well planted enclosure and you should be OK.

Can I start them out in a nano terrarium? I have an 18X18X12 which would be plenty of room for the 30 eggs I have.

If there is enough space for all the babies to be comfortable, has enough cover, and good ventilation you should be OK. I would watch and make certain that they receive enough air flow as that kind of terrarium is mostly good for high humidity and not air flow (plus it is an arid habitat species). Many people have had success with these enclosure meaning you should be OK just keep an eye out for the top three concerns.

OK, I will not keep it moist like I do for the pygs, but spray the leaves sparingly so they can just drink and not revel in the humidity. I have a very small fan that I use to gently keep the air stirring around the top screen which should help with the air circulation. This will only be used until they can handle larger feeders than malangascar flies. That should be only a couple weeks. It is easy to provide lots of hiding places in the nano and lots of sticks. I have two, so I can put 15 in each which should give plenty of space for them in the nanos.

About the Exo-Terra:

I kept an adult male in one, without any issues. I think if you do a 5-8 minute misting in the morning when the lights turn on the amount of water will not be an issue. If you are having too much water still, I think misting for 5 or so minutes would do it. (I always did more in the morning, if the enclosure seemed drier than I wanted, I'd give another misting later int he day)

I still only have one lonely F. verrocosus hatched out so I think tomorrow it will go in my big nano so he/she has lots of room to roam around and hut for food. It is really doing well and does seem to eat what I'm supplying it so I'm confident I can remove it from my little ICU container.

Don't know what I am doing exactly with the panthers as they are a new experience for me. I am keeping them around 80-82 without a basking lamp but I do have an old uvb bulb which is putting out about 10-12 uvb's. They seem to like it and the light. They are frisky little things, running around everywhere, and I am noticing some poop in the bottom of the cage so I guess they are starting to eat something. I am offering them pins, hydei and melangascar ff. They have a choice since I don't know exactly what to feed these tiny things.

My veiled neonates which are hatching out at the same time as the panthers are huge compared to the panthers and they won't even look twice at anything other then the hydei's. They are more of a sit on the branch and wait for the food to come to them kind of cham. Lazy little buggers. LOL. No wonder they get so big and fat so fast.
