Baby Cham won’t eat anything

I really need help here. I’ve tried crickets and mealworms and he won’t eat either of them. He just walks away. He’s about 2 months and I got him from flchams.com
Please help me, I don’t know what to do anymore.

As you can see, he shows dark colors and he can see the crickets but ignores them. He’s fairly new, he arrived on Tuesday.

He needs time to adjust. Give him a few weeks to settle in. You can also try hornworms, waxworms, silkworms, black soldier fly larva, various roaches, etc.

I agree, that cricket is the size of his head. You should go by the rule no bigger than the space between their eyes. You can use your large crickets to breed them for constant food for your little guy.

General rule of thumb is to feed the chameleon insects that are as long as distance in between the chameleon's eyes.

Please post a picture of his enclosure and the temperatures of the lights, your watering schedule, etc. He is most likely just adjusting, but this is just to make sure that problems don't occur along the road.

The light temperatures are at about 80-85. But he likes it warm. He gets his enclosure misted about 3-5 times daily and has a little dripper.

• Your Chameleon - Veiled male, two months old, been with me for three days.
• Handling - I try to everyday. He likes to run across my hands.
• Feeding - He hasn’t eaten anything
• Supplements - Dust feeders with zoo med repticalcium
• Watering - He has a little dripper and I mist him 3-5 times daily. He also opens his mouth when I’m misting sometimes too. And he drinks off the leaves.
• Fecal Description - hasn’t been tested for parasites under my care. Mostly solid brown with some white.
• History - N/A

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Medium zoo med screen cage
• Lighting - zoo med double hooded light, with uvb and heat bulbs
• Temperature - 80-85 degrees during the day. 70ish at night.
• Humidity - I don’t know my humidity levels. I am working on it
• Plants - 1 live plant. Tropical, from pet store.
• Placement - cage is on the ground not near anything.
• Location - Ohio

Current Problem - my babe won’t eat anything I try to give him. No mealworms and no crickets.

The food needs to be the appropriate size.
If the insects are appropriate then maybe he is just settling in. I wouldn't handle him much at all for a few days tomgive him time to settle in.
Don't spray water into his mouth...he may aspirate it and die.
Does he sleep during the day?

• Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
• Location - Where are you geographically located?

Hello, my cham did something similar in the beginning, as well as providing smaller crickets or feeders in general I recommend you to use a feed cup so you can track easier how much does he it and make it easier for him to "hunt" them. At the beginning my Cham never ate when I was in the room, maybe yours is shy too. Also you'll need to get calcium with D3 and multivitamin, I recommend you to read the caresheet on the resources area of this site to learn about it. Hope your Cham eats soon.

You should not be handling for at least another week. He should not be sleeping during the day. Did you sanitize the plant when you got it? You need some more plants. What do you mean when you say that he likes it warm?

I would definitely get some more foliage in his cage, the more they feel secure the better they will eat! I agree the cricket in the picture definitely looks to big, mine prefer their food smaller and it needs to be no bigger then the space between the eyes like stated above. Also I would switch to a liner UVB bulb as the coil bulb is just concentrated to one area, UVB is so important in digestion and bone development! Settling in can take a while, he may be just adjusting to his new surroundings, the less you bug him the better. Just feed him and hydrate and walk away, he hopefully will eat when you walk away, all mine eat when I am not watching!! Good luck

Yes he sleeps a lot

This is not a great sign, if he is sleeping during the day I suggest a vet visit to make sure everything looks ok with him.
