Baby Panther is going downhill, Help!

Okay, so I have peeked in on him only twice and he has been up and moving. Good sign. He is also wide eyed and awake. Hope this keeps up. Unfortunately don't think he has been eating. There are 5 cricket chilling with him on the bask branch! LOL! Hmmm, maybe he's turned vegan? JK! Anyway, getting ready to order up some worms, does anyone have favorite worms they feed their chams, recommendations? The superworms freak me out cuz everyone says they can bite. I looked at Phoenix worms and also silkworms. Butterworms too, although they are really pricey!

Check your local walmart. Mine has butterworms and waxworms. Fast fix.:D

Laurie,
Your kidding? Your Wally World has Butterworms?...hmm mine may have waxworms. I was calling around like mad in January looking for waxworms and no one had them, I assume it was because fishing season wasn't in full swing. So are they in the fishing section?

Maybe try different size crickets. I've had babies that won't eat the crickets if they are a little big, and I've had babies with a cage full of small crickets that will chase down a large cricket if I throw it in. Good luck with the little guy.

That's actually a good suggestion but unfortunately I already thought of it last week and it's made no difference. For the past 7 days I have been making sure his crickets are very small by sorting them from the bigger ones before I put them in his cage. I'm really just leaning towards stress / overhandling at this point. I never hardly touched his sister when I got her for the first month and she did very well, granted she only was eating around 6 crickets a day for the first 3 weeks but after that she started going nuts on the crickets. I also thought maybe I would vary the gutload away from greens. So I have been doing apples the past 4 days and still he does not eat much, if at all. I caught him sleeping a few times today and I think he is just so stressed he is just not eating and not eating is causing him to be lethargic. If not handling him, adding different feeders, and placing him in a private room does not help, I am afraid I have done all I can do. His temps are great, supplements, I am doing everything by the book.....so all I can do now is hope. The only other possibility that was mentioned is parasites. But his poo is just so little I will have a very hard time getting a fresh viable sample.

I have to be honest, I have not been misting his enclosure at all. This is one thing that I was doing with the female that I haven't done with him....hmmmm? This could be part of it as well. I'd like to offer him some different feeders but he is just so small I'm not sure I can find any worms local. I may have to order some.

Misting is essential....not just for drinking water, but also to maintain good skin and clean sheds, imho.

Phoenix worms...

try these. My guy was having issues and I got 15 wax worms to tide me over till my shipment of Phoenix worms came. He liked both however the phoenix worms are better for him. He is finally coming around. I also gave him Reptaboost about 1/2cc a day. I has worked for me. However I hear good and bad about sryinge feeding you must do it very slowly like one drop at a time. It takes a long time but it is better to do so they don't aspirate.

See if he will eat hornworms. Have you tried dubia roaches? I try to keep my feeders gut loaded with veggies and fruits and mix up what I give daily. I also up feed so I can see what goes in and what comes out.

As others have suggested mist about 4 times a day as well.. need to keep up the humidity. Move to a less stressful place for now.

Keep us posted on his progress... We don't want you to loose another little one either. Hold strong for him.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm ordering some Phoenix worms ASAP and having them overnighted. Unfortunately even at that probably wont get them until Tuesday. So I will try and find some waxworms to get some fats in him and get him feeling better.

Okay, everyone, he is doing waaaaay better. Misted 4 times today at 2 minutes each. Got back from a mountain bike ride about an hour ago and he is not sleeping anymore, he is up and active. I noticed he was been basking a lot since I moved him too. He just looks 100% better. Just peeked in and he is moving to his normal sleeping branch and his lights turned off on the timer. Just shut the door and turned the lights out. Should be a great, peaceful sleep for him in there. I am now totally convinced this is stress related. We should not have been handling him once a day like that until he got use to us. He ate amazing the first few day and just went downhill steadily. I noticed he went from being rather tolerant to gaping occasionally and turning dark brown over the last 2 weeks as well while being handled. I actually thought about stopping handling 5 days ago but just didn't do it like some dummy. Thanks again for everyone's help!:D I think he is going to be fine just as long as I can get him to eat.

I just knew he would get better! It is great to hear a success story. I may link this thread to people having trouble because of correctable stuff. Hopefully they will respond fast like you. Great job!

Hmm, well this morning he was up and at em. I misted his cage and put his cricket cup in there. Went in there a few minutes ago though and he is basking but he has his eyes closed. Ugh! He opens up his eyes the second I get within 3 feet of the cage but I just don't like this. Not sure if he is sleeping or his eyes are bothered. When my other Cham got sick I could barely get her to open her eyes for anything. I'm not going to freak out too bad about it, it took him 2 weeks to get this stressed out, so I can't expect him to be 100% in less than 24 hours.

Just got done ordering some phoenix worms and they are being overnighted. May have to try and get him some waxworms in the meantime, but everybody seems to be closed for easter today.

Yes many places are closed today. Do you know anyone in your area that has reptiles that might be able to give you some food for today???

Okay, good news and really BAD news. The good news, I just misted his cage and he is off his basking branch moving around and getting a drink from his dripper. The really bad news, he pooped on his basking branch, and it is just a solid drop of liquid red. Bloody....I'm freakin' out! Please help me out, is this a parasite situation? Some type of illness? I don't know. He seems to be doing way better than yesterday in terms of activity, he even looks better around the face and eyes. I only have one reputable herp vet in my area and she is out until Monday. The big problem is getting a stool sample from this little guy when he is not even pooping hardly at all anything solid. A got the drop of blood of the branch with a q-tip and put it in a bag in the fridge, don't know if that can be of any help at all to a vet though. Is it possible that he is impacted?
