Baby panther too close to UVB?

We recently bought a baby panther..he is about 4-4 1/2 months old now. Our question is can he be too close to his UVB source? Can it cause him damage in anyway? The way his habitat is set up is that we have his vines zip tied to different areas of the screen to stay in place, and he has been sitting about 3 inches below his UVB light. We use a 5.0 Reptisun. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

From what I've read and also had backed up on video data is that Chameleon's will only absorb as much UVB as needed and that's it. What the Chameleon absorbs can actually stay in the system from 48-72 hours so you shouldn't have to worry about over UVB exposure but I could be wrong. I don't think I would put a baby cham that close as it probably wouldn't be good for his/her eyes as well. A RepiSun 5.0 UVB will expose 12 inches into the home so just to be safe you might want to move him/her a little further down. But like I said I could be wrong, being too close may not be any harm at all.

I think you are safe using the Repti-sun 5.0.
That and a regular fluorescent is the basking heat source for a baby cage here .... so getting real close is expected.
Kitty used to hang upside down on the screen directly (maybe 1 inch) under the UVB light.

OK thanks, good to hear. I knew the reach was 12" or so but I just wanted to double check on the overexposure.

I have the read that the 10.0 bulbs, in addition to the spectrum provided by 5.o blubs, give off a higher frequency wavelength that can be harmful to eyes and skin at close range over time. Unlike the 10.0 bulb, the 5.0 you are using is safe even if the chams were touching the bulb.
