Baby Veiled Chameleon

Hi all,

I'm new here and just wanted to check in.
I picked up my baby male veiled chameleon (aged 11 weeks) from a local breeder on Friday and I'm in love with him already!! We've hand made him a vivarium - 3ft wide x 20" deep x 3.8ft tall and he seems very happy walking up and down all the branches. Before getting him I got advice from pet shops, read various care sheets online and spoke to the breeder but all advice seems to contradict each other. So I have to confess I'm very confused about a couple of things. I can see you guys know what you're talking about so I would love to here from your experience, if you don't mind:

I feed him twice a day on small crickets, approx 10 each meal. Is that enough??

Does he need a night light, or will he be ok in the dark?

I hand mist around his viv 2-3 times per day, is that enough? And should I be misting him directly also?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Luv from
Gemma

he does not need a night bulb , or night heating source unless temperature drops too low in your house .

for babies 80-82 deg F. juviniles at 82-85 F at basking spot
3-5 mistings per day
he should eat 10-15 feeder per day ,gutloaded properly and variated bugs(roaches, worms etc )
suplements :dust the feeder with :calcium with d3 -twice per month, multivitamins - twice per month, plain calciu every day or use repashy calcium plus dusted for every feeder veryday -nothing else is required if you use repashy calcium plus
adults need a 2ftx2ftx4ft cage screen mesh for good air flow ,and smaller ones for babies/juvies - so change it if you have glass terrarium,no substrate required
at night you need 10-15 degree temp drop and no lights.
you need a uvb bulb too ,linear 5.0 repiglo/reptisun is recommended and a basking bulb .

other questions, just ask but ask in food / enclosure etc threads if you want fast responses

Hello Gemma, welcome to the forum :) This is the caresheet I recommend to everyone with new Veileds on here - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blo...e/396-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet-part-2.html
So you are feeding and misting enough, and you should mist him directly too. If you can find a pressure pump sprayer it will be easier for you and more comfortable for him.
He needs darkness for comfortable sleep, and won't likely need any heat at night (it shouldn't get below about 70F for babies, 60F for adults). If any extra night heat is needed a ceramic heater would be best. Even the red night lights can disturb a Chams sleep

Hello arnau666 & David, Thanks for your responses I've learned a lot already.
Don't worry I am gutloading all insects properly and providing supplements. And I have a 5.0 uv light & basking bulb all set up, although I'm thinking of changing that to ceramic heater.
I will start misting my baby boy today as you recomend, hope he likes it. Not sure what a pressure pump is David but I'll look into it :0) And as for not needing heat @ night, I have no clue what temp my house drops too so I guess I need to get a thermometer in the house and check it after midnight....lol
Right I'm off to read that care sheet. Thanks again.

i would like to see some pics ! i recommend the digital termo/hygrometer ! the analogue ones dont show the right temps !
good luck , and keep asking if you are not sure of something

He's called Neo and is super cute. I tried posting a picture but it wouldn't work, not sure if it's my lame laptop, that the pic is too large or if it's the sites fault.
So a pressure pump sprays water continuously, is that right? I'll get one right away. Temp seems ok for now but I ordered a digital thermometer/hygrometer the other day, hoping it will arrive this afternoon. Thanks again guys, it's nice to have someone to check things out with. Have a great day xx
