Baby veiled letargic

Hi guys, i got my first chameleon last wednesday. he seems to be around 3 months old. I haven't seen him eating or drinking since then... And im starting to get worried.

Here's the info so you could give me some help:

• Your Chameleon - veiled Chameleon, i think he's about 3 months old.
• Handling - i'm trying not to handle him.
• Feeding - micro crickets but its seems he's not feeding
• Supplements - repashy calcium and d3 vitamins over the crickets.
• Watering - hand misting 3 to 4 times a day
• Fecal Description - clear green and some times vertical gray stripes
• History - no info available.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - screen type. When i bougth it it was in a 18x18x30 in the first 2 days but i've read it was to big for him, so now he's in a 16x16x20.
• Lighting - combo 80w with UVA+UVB+heating, bougth it in the pet store.
• Temperature - the room is at 68, beber took temperatura in the basking spot, but i think the bulb gives some heat.
• Humidity - 70s, mantained with watering 3 to 4 times a day.
• Plants - yes, schefflera arborícola.
• Placement - in a table isolated near a wall away from my door. The top is at 36" from the floor.
• Location - Portugal.

Current Problem - The Chameleon is not eating or drinking and i dont ser him moving around. Yesterday i changed the cage and he climbed to the top, but he stayed there until today. An hour ago i took him down of the cage near the crickets but no action from him just looked at them passing in front of him...any advice? Shoulder i wait some more until i go crazy?

What color has the urate been? How do you feed him? Ex. Outside in cage, hand feeding, free range food

Do you have the box the bulb came in? When you say the room is 68 degrees, what is the temp inside the cage and especially under the light? Very, Very important! . They have to have a temp of around 80-85 to warm up. D3 calcium should not be used daily but a few times a month. Calcium with no d3 daily and then get a multivitamin which contains VitA and use that a few times a month as well. You need to situate a branch horizontally about 6 inches down below the light so you chameleon can warm up. I don't know about poop being green. It should be black or brownish in color

If it's a combination 80w bulb I would assume it's far too hot for him. Especially in that small of an enclosure. I usually only use a 60w-75w incandescent at most. That bulb is only a basking bulb and the uvb is a completely different bulb. He looks very dehydrated. Are you misting him? How long are your misting sessions? Are you free ranging/letting him hunt his crickets? I would suggest teaching him to cup feed at his age. That cage is still rather large for him to be hunting all his food. Mist him for about 3 minutes at a time right now. To make sure he drinks pleny, and don't mist him directly all the time. Mist him with warm water if you can, he will accept that more easily.

Hi Guys, thanks for the help, i'll mist him with hot water and try to place a branch. As for the crickets is free hunting.
I've never seen the urate.

I'll try cup feeding and if it fails do you sugestões force feeding him a moisture of mashed crickets and water with a sirynge?

Hi, thanks for the help, but unfortunatelly he's dead.
In the store i saw the misting system was not working and asked the seller(wich is an exotic vet) if he was OK once another one was dead in the cage... He said that it would be fine. He was not...

Are you saying there was a dead chameleon in the cage when you bought this one?

I think the green stuff he is referring was urates and he was dehydrated, so badly that he wasnt eating so there was no poo.

However it could go the other way. It could have been green poo, that can be caused by a failing liver. Which again leads back to the dehydration?

Poor baby. Sorry that he passed away. That is terrible that he has dead chameleon in the cage and selling you another one. Please don't buy from this seller again!

Ok. Didn't know that. I thought liver failure produced a tanish beige poo. But dehydration=green poo. Hungh....didn't know. Thank you.

No dehydration would create a yellow/orange urates. However my assumption due to what he said is the chameleon isnt pooing as it isnt eating, and he is finding urates and thinking they yellow/orange urates are green ?

Liver failure can create green poo, according to Ferritinmyshoes. I am not a vet just going by what he said .

I'm very sorry for your loss The fact that there was another dead chameleon in the cage when you purchased him is very troubling, please do not go back to that seller.

If you do try again, check out the care sheets supplied on this page and click around the forum a lot. Put together your set up and come back here with specs - all of us would be more than happy to check them out for you and confirm that you are good to go before you bring your new friend home
