Baby veiled sleeps all day? No movement

Dude that's like the exact thing I did.. I had been waiting for them to get their new babies in and once I saw them I was so excited I had to buy one right away. I also chose the only male and he happened to be the runt out of all his siblings. If you take him back tomorrow you could maybe ask them to give him some appetite stimulant. Idk what the people at the store called it exactly but I think they force fed him a little bit on a syringe and it gave him enough energy to start eating on his own.

I agree with the "get a male" sentiment. I think females are for experienced chameleon keepers (I've had one, lost her...now have males).

Please do let the people here help you with your new chameleon.

@Elizadolots Yeah i know i well. I trust you guys more than the actual pet owners haha. But yeah i took him back yesterday and he said he was very dehydrated and that they would try to get him back and running. I had asked him so what do i do and he said to call back onn Monday and depending on his condition he would either give it back or wait until they get more and do an exchange
So i will just have to wait

I'm so sorry this is not working out well. You might be better off ordering a cham from one of the reputable breeders or forum sponsors. They are usually older and hardier then what you find in the stores. Just make sure you have all your husbandry all set up before they ship it too you.

Hello, welcome to the forum :) I hope he can come back to you, but either way it's good that the pet store accepted him back properly. Here's a great caresheet I always recommend to people with Veileds - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/chameleonsinmyhouse/395-veiled-chameleon-care-sheet.html

I would recommend getting rid of the fountain and setting up a plastic bottle dripper, fountains are a magnet for bacteria and hard to keep clean.
I also think you need a lot more foliage and small branches to climb in with him. Plants like Pothos, Schefflera and Ficus are great for them.

I agree, WAY more plants, vines, branches from top to bottom and follow the advice you have been given. It may be too late for that little cham but if you get another you should be all ready to go on your set up.

UPDATE: Well i gave him back to the store
Kinda sad that the day after i gave him back, he didnt make it :(
The owner of the store said he was dehydrated and thats why he wasnt active and died
But he had said since i had been in contact with him a few time, he would give me full credit back but only store credit. I just have to wait a couple weeks so they can get more chams. Hopefully all goes well with the new one i will be getting soon. I will follow all of your guys recommendations with the cage and stuff. Once again thank you all for your help.
I will update again when i get my new baby cham and maybe put up some pictures in a couple weeks

What a shame, 1 month old is very young to sell a Cham anyway, especially since you got the small one. I hope everything goes smoothly with your next little guy :)

Also I'm not sure if anyone has commented on this yet but I'd remove the fountain/waterfall thing because your veiled could drown in it if it's small enough.

So sorry to here you lost your baby veiled. I lost a Male Baby Panther yesterday after about 4 days of sickness. He was 4 months and in my care for about 25 days. He was really healthy the first week and a half and then his eating tapered. Finally he started closing his eyes during the day. Sometimes they just get sick and there is nothing we can do to save them, especially when they are that small. Chams sleeping during the day is an immediate red flag of illness, I have had 2 Chams that started sleeping during the day and they were both gone within a week of that warning sign. Best thing to do is perfect your set up before you get a new baby, make sure you learn from any mistakes you have made ( not saying you made any, but go back through and triple check everything). I highly recommend sanitizing your cage before getting another little one just in case your little guy had a virus or some type of illness just to way on the safe side. I agree with other posts on here, I don't think stores should be selling Chams that young. I really think they should be at least 3 months before they are introduced to someones home. You may want to try and purchase from a breeder on the sponsor list.

I am so very sorry to hear the little one didn't make it. He really should have been older. The store should not have sold such young ones and should have sold you products that were more suitable for chams. This is very common of pet supply stores.
I would like to suggest using the store credit to buy the proper supplies that you need... (Not what the store wants to sell you but what real experienced members on this forum would suggest). While you are getting your cage set up look into getting a healthier cham from a recommended member or sponsor of this forum.
Keep learning all you can in the mean time and it is great to have you here on the forum :)
