I work in a pet store and we were shipped a baby veiled that was not eating, eyes closed. Took to vet and was given formula to start hand feeding. This little guy is eating fairly well from formula, eyes are now open and he seems to be doing better however still is not eating crickets or mealworms. Any ideas? We want the best for this little guy. We are keeping him misted and temp around 85.

Welcome to the forums. What did the vet give you to feed him? After you feed him for a few days stop you feelings and wait a couple days before you offer him crickets so he will be hungry. Make sure the crickets are small enough for him....no wider than the space between his eyes. I keep veileds and have a care sheet for what I recommend to successfully keep young veileds. Thank you for your reply I'm sorry I don't have the name of the formula. It is a tan powder that is mixed with warm water and it makes a paste. He is fed with a syringe and has gotten to open his mouth when we offer food.

I think for babies pinhead crickets and fruit flies work well. I fed mine fruit flies during her first month because she was slightly intimidated by crickets. As long as the mealworms are smaller than the distance between the eyes they should be okay to feed. Mine loved them while she was on the fruit flies.

What is your enclosure like? Size? Foliage?
I should think this baby is more than a couple of weeks. The disadvantage of being a pet store is that they just send something to us and we have no history or knowledge of how old. Doesn't mean we don't care, it just sometimes makes it harder. I think we'll try

Skip the mealworms. Look for baby silkworms from someone. Soft bodied and full of Ca, should help the little guy a lot. Smaller sized crickets will help put on the weight, also. Smaller prey is easier to digest and can fill more of the stomach void, than 1 or 2 larger items.
