Bark and my cham

Well I am new here and it has been several years since I have had a chameleon so bare with me but is it ok that he swallows some bark with his crickets? I am just afraid that he won't be able to poop! Also how often should he be pooping...I believe he is a elephant ear chameleon (chamaeleo b. brevicornis). I got him last saturday and he has only pooped twice...I remember my veiled (female) pooping a lot!!!

Anyone who can offer advise thanks Rachel :)

how the heck you got that species?
Here is the quote from adcham:
"C. brevicornis is one of the species banned from export by CITES in 1995."

But, to answer your Q, yes bark can cause impaction to chameleon.
how is he able to get access to bark?
Do you use substrate?

Are you using bark as substrate? If you are, you shouldn't. He might have eaten some when eating crickets, which would explain why he hasn't pooped. He might be impacted. I would give him a nice long shower and give him a little tummy rub. I know there are others that can give better advice but it worked for me.

Believe it or not I was just passing by a local vendor and they had him....I thought he was fake at first....he was in a cage with a bunch of baby iguanas and a few veiled....
He can get to the bark (it covers the bottom of his cage). I will be taking the bark OUT!

I read on some of the other threads not to use fake grass so what can I use for the bottom of his cage? I need to keep the humity up that's why I choose the bark.

i would also like to know how often veileds and panthers should be popping my veiled doesent poop that much and my panther poopped yesterday and today but sometimes skips a couple days or a day

skipping a day or two is fine for adult cham.

absolutely no bark is better.
humidity is maintained by misting and live plants.
I have no experience whatsoever with this particular sp. So, I can only suggest some general care.

I don't know because he is never yellow and his stripe pattern is similiar but it is white/black or white/aqua green/blue colors.....I looked at several website with Meller's Chameleons and he kinda looks like them but wrong colors. How are you sure?

can you post a bigger pic of him?
There are many Melleri experts here that will be able to tell you for sure (I'm not one of them:eek:).

Well, mellers dont stay certain colors, some colorations mean they are stressed, receptive, fired up etc i think, by your pic i cant tell cause its too small and i can barely see it.

Rachel,

It's a Meller's chameleon. Many chameleon species have occipital lobes, or "elephant ears," including melleri. Kristina Francis will be able to tell you more about its coloration-- I'm sure she'll chime in as soon as she sees this.

Chams don't need a substrate. to keep up the humidity, place line plants and mist ofen. If you do have a Melleri you really should invest in a Herpmist.

Here is the cage I have for my little melleri.
