Basic gutloading question..

I have never really "gutloaded". When I was younger and had my first cham I would just go to the pet store every few days and get some more crickets. I honestly wasnt a very responsible owner back then. Not that she was neglected, I just didnt invest as much time and thought into my last two.

I bought a small cricket holder and now buy crickets about 40 at a time. Basically what I do is just throw some food in there for the crickets just assuming theyll eat it cause its there. Sweet potatos and Kale as of late.

But I recall reading something recently where people kind of make a mix of assorted fruits and veggies and blend it up and then feed it to the crickets. Is my method wrong??? I do see the crickets eating the stuff I put in there, therefore they are eating it. Just wondering if there is any advantage to making a ground up mix of it??

You could mix things up a bit, I used to gutload the with the MK diet I made for my Iguana.

greanbeans, butternut squash, partsnip, strawberry, grinded alphalpha, collards.

I used this for a frilled dragon and a panther. Always had healthy animals.

There are a few "recipes" out there, I don't know if they truly make a difference if you are giving correct supplements.

The better the gutload, the healthier the chameleon. :) Although kale is good, try to vary with other greens. Kale can lead to other health issues if too much is used. There are quite a few recipes and commercially available gutloads out there, and my feeders eat better than I do! He He.

For variety some good commercially available gutloads are Cricket Crack and Bug Burger. Avoid Flukers, it's nowhere near as good :)

I use the commercial stuff for a dry food and mix up a lot of different things in the blender for a better gut load....they love the blended blend much more.
