Bathing chams?

Is it ok to bathe chams in a little dish of lukewarm water? Someone told me to try it by letting the Cham grab onto my finger and lower them in the water without submerging their head. I just tried it and one of them really enjoyed it and the other not so much. So is this ok to do and how often can it be done?

There's no need to give a cham a bath. They would naturally get showers from rainfall or by climbing through soaking wet foliage. I would think being held in water would be very stressful, not enjoyable!

ya I say don't do baths either. I sometimes give my boys showers. Especially when they are shedding. I have these branches with leaves and suction cups on them. got them from pets mart, I stick them in the shower wall and point the shower head to where it is not directly on them, but bouncing off a wall to the branches. Using warm water. Not anywhere near hot, and not ice cold. luke warm. They absolutely love it.

I have heard of giving a cham a bath or "soak" when they have a prolapse.

I give my boy a bath every 2 weeks. I just fill the tub half belly high and i make the temp around 80 and he loves it. I also do showers but not as often.

Just wondering what the indications of enjoyment were for your chameleons?

Little chameleon smiles or what?

:D

Bathing would be very unnatural for these guys, so it is hard for me to imagine enjoyment as a result.

One time someone showed me one "swim" in his kitchen sink. The chameleon blew up like a balloon and floated like one too. Didn't look like it was having an enjoyable time though.

I just had him on my finger and put the bottom half of his body (while on my finger) into the lukewarm water and the one just sat there looking very relaxed, he even closed his eyes for a minute whereas the other one as soon as he touched the water he tried to run away.

I would NEVER put them in water without me having physical contact at all times, I can't believe someone tried to make them swim

Closing their eyes is a sign of stress in reptiles. We mammals do it when we enjoy something (cats close their eyes when they purr, etc.) but reptiles do it out of stress, sort of a "if I can't see it it's not happening" type of reaction.

Thanks, I appreciate the info! I won't be bathing them again
