Baytril information and burn

Chameleon Info:

• Your Chameleon - Male panther chameleon, 8 months old he's been with me just over 3 months.
• Handling - Never unless needed.
• Feeding - At the moment, 3 superworms a day I know they aren't a great staple but he's denying everything else.
• I gut load with a variety of fruits, veg and greens, bee pollen, and a superload.
• Supplements - My schedule is one recommend by Chameleons UK Facebook group. A full supplement pack and schedule is on there.
• Watering - Spray twice a day and use a dripper. I've syringed him this morning because I've not seen him drink and he's a bit lathargic.
• Fecal Description - Slick but solid, white urate. Tested and cleared.
• History - Nothing relevant to the post.

Cage Info:

• Cage Type - Glass with mesh top. Medium extra tall exo terra.
• Lighting - t5 12% Arcadia Luminaire UVB, Arcadia halogen basking light hooked up microclimate Evo stat.
• Temperature - 30-32°c basking spot, middle ambient is 24°c and lower ambient is 19.6°c. I used two temp probs in hottest and coolest part of viv but also have laser thermometer.
• Humidity - Once sprayed its 80% once dry its usually around 65% use two gages in the viv.
• Plants - Pothos, umbrella and ficus.
• Placement - top of viv around 6ft off the floor, near no windows or vents etc. In my bedroom so low foot traffic and away from other pet (cat). One side of viv covered with aquarium backing and a blackout curtain so he can't see me coming and going to the en suite.
• Location - UK.

Current PROBLEM -
My cham has suffered a burn on his back, I've been treating it with aloe vera gel cut straight from the plant after washing with a salt solution (twice a day) He's also on Baytril 0.05ml once a day. The vet said between two and three weeks, depending on how the burn clears up. He didn't give me any cream or anything for the burn, due to the cleansing routine said above.
He's been a bit lathargic since starting Baytril and I'm wondering if that's normal? I was concerned about his hydration so whilst I was giving him his ABs this morning I also hydrated him.
Also, I've posted a photo of the burn that I took yesterday and wondered if it's looking okay? Or if I should ask the vet for something to put on it?
How long generally does it take chams to heal from burns?
Is the dosage of Baytril okay?
I'm sure he's not liking having to be handled twice a day and that could be playing a part in him being moody but I'd just like someone who has experience with burns and ABs to advise me.
(I've also uploaded a photo of him from last night so you can see he's not generally in bad health just lathargic, he was scuttling away from after his bathing and aloe)

Baytril is really hard on chams lots of water at all times it’s tough on the kidneys but I’ve never heard of baytril being given for a burn those usually heal on its own but lower the dose they really only need a tiny drop

He said it looked like it was beginning to get infected which is why he gave it to him. I didn't realise it was so tough on them. I am tempted to give him them for a week, see how he gets on. Have you seen the photo of the burn I posted? Does it look okay to you? I've never encountered a burn, so I have no idea.

Unless the burn become infected, all your chameleon should need for the burn is Silver sulfadiazine cream.

Sound like a bad idea too me.. Is this vet specialisez with chameleon? (lot of vet dont so the best is to ask for good reference )


-Dont know if its infected with bacteria or fungus.. he didnt make a culture so if its a fungus or any bacteria baytril can't fix the baytril will just make things worst
-At least..the vet sould give you silverderm cream and an anti inflamatory (like metacam if my memory is good?

My advices :
-Stop the superworms maybe try the black soldier fly or the silkworm (i know you know )
-Clean the wound with proviodine one or twice a day
-cut the vitamin (except low calcium) till the baytril treatment is over (baytril is hard on the kidney, best is to cut any other stuff can give work to the kidney
-Put antibiotic cream (in my country we have polysporin
-Be patient (it can take month to heal)
-Clean the terrarium more than before because he have low defences
-wash your hand carefully (you dont want to add any bacteria from the outside)
-feed him with silkworm (natural source of anti-inflamatory and good % of water.. always help to heal)

My concern : have you found and fix the source of the burn? how is he now? Need help with your setup?

A couple of things not related to the burn, first, he’s probably denying any thing else because he’s been spoiled with superworms. Don’t feed him for 3 days, then try another feeder. Superworms should only be for occasional variety. He also isn’t getting enough food and should be fed every other day. Read the panther care sheet here. Crickets, dubia roaches, red runner roaches, orange-headed roaches, ivory-headed roaches, green banana roaches, along with others, silkworms, hornworms, butterworms, BSFL and flies, blue bottle flies, painted lady butterflies, snails, mantids, and stick insects, are all great feeders, just to name a few. A varied diet is the best diet. What are your exact supplements and schedule? He needs to be misted at least 3 times a day for at least 2 minutes each. Investing in an automated mister will help with this. He needs a MINIMUM of 60 cm by 60 cm by 120 cm tall cage! A t5HO 12% linear uvb bulb is way too high for that size of cage! Get a 6% instead. Could you post a pic of his cage, please?

I think you helped me with a question I posted before.
He does have a varied diet, I shake it up depending on what I can get my hands on at the time. Normally supers are a treat but with him being on ABs I want him getting his supps and bee pollen for the day so he doesn't lose out on anything he needs.
The supplement schedule I give is too varied to type up on here. It's a highly recommended one by an award winning group online whose admins all have 10+ plus year owning chameleons and they're breeders. I have a bioactive enclosure, if I sprayed that much it would flood and become stagnant, the humidity would be too high and probably cause an R.I. He has never become dehydrated in my care, ever, so I know I don't need to up my misting. The only reason I syringed him today was because I know ABs can be tough on their kidneys.
I had a 6% and it wasn't enough, I got advised to upgrade to a 12%, he has loads of foliage to get out of both heat and uv, should he need it.
His viv is 60x45x90 as I stated in one of my previous posts I do plan on extending it upwards, all the Exo terra vivs over in the UK are 45cm deep so I can't do anything to change that and my apartment isn't suitable for mesh but for the time being his viv now is actually fine for him, he is only just settling into that after being moved out of a bigger one because temperature was a big issue, as was location of the viv, so had to downsize for that reason too.
