Bearded dragon swimming under water.

Is it normal? My bearded dragon loves being in water, the other day he was shedding so i let him go for a swim to help him out with his shedding. He started to put his head under the water and swim. Its the second time he's done it. I've never heard of them doing that before, the water is shallow one end and up to his legs the other end i also have a rock in for him so he can climb out if he wants. He really is a proper little water baby. :D

I've never seen them swim with their head under water.

If I'm bringing some along for an educational presentation I soak them in water first to try and get them to poop beforehand to prevent accidents and then in clean water afterwards to clean them really well, and when I do this they will sometimes inflate like a balloon and doggie paddle. The swimming action is different from most lizards which put their arms and legs to their sides and swim propelled by their tail crocodile-like.

I have seen mine dip their heads under water when bathing though. They sometimes bathe in their water dishes, flattening their bodies and wriggling rapidly- the action has a very bird-like bathing appearance.

Very interesting. I'd imagine he didn't cough up any water afterward (or else you would have mentioned, right?) so he should be fine..

Well, any who, very neat. :)

No he doesn't cough up any water, he really seems to have fun . the next time he swims under water I'll video it and post on here. pretty cool to watch! :)

pls do. my little guy just trys to jump out of the water. he doesnt like baths too much but thats too bad cause he needs em. he sure does love to poop in his bath though.

mine poops in his too, i only put a little bit of water in at first once he has been to the toilet which is normally right away i clean the bath out then put fresh water in. mine has loved the water from day one.

swimming under water is normal as long as they hold there breath which most of them do ....so dont worry he will be fine ... he just having a fun time
