hey, just wanted peoples opinions on the best live plants for my chameleon.we purchased a maidenhair fern after checking that it was safe to use, we put it in the viv, she stepped on it and the plant collapsed so weve taken it out now and are in need of another plant that is safe for her and that she is able to walk on

I got 4 plants in my cages ficus, pothos, hibiscus and schafflera probably most common used by most

I really like my hibiscus plants and I have another 'trumpet' vine bush thing that I like but these are for my outdoor enclosures at the moment, not sure how they are going to do come winter since they are full sun. For indoor plants I prefer the ficus over the scheffula (sp) since it requires more light than my house can provide.

Benjamin Ficus are nice. I use em for all my chameleons and the white and green on the leaves make the enclosure look amazing!

Ficus and schflerra are best IMO, because they have long sturdy braches. Pothos have very long leaves and don't provide good grip to chameleon and have one central branch instead of many.

thankyou everyone for your opinions, I think im going to try the ficus benjamin and see how it goes with that.was quite dissapointed with the maidenhair fern tbh, wouldnt recommend it to anyone

coffee is a great cham plant, it has a cautionary notation on some safe lists but i believe that is in reference to the beans, which dont develope for about 10 years, jackson's are fine with coffee, but they are not big plant eaters ,they also thrive in the coffee plantations of hawaii, coffee has luscious well hydrated leaves , slender woody cham grippable size stalks , and is almost impossible to kill, and uses lots of water which can be a good thing depending on your setup but i would be cautious for a while if your cham is a big plant eater

The problem we had with the maidenhair was that when she climbed on the plant it wasnt sturdy enough and caved in so she got stuck under the plant and couldnt get out, we literally had to cut the plant to bits to be able to reach her at the bottom so I wouldnt recommend it tbh.shes very very light at the min and the plant still collapsed so if someone was to put it in with a bigger, heavier chameleon it prob wouldnt last 5mins

I have 2 ficus and of course their sturdy their trees:D and a pothos I wrap the pothos vines along the branches and vines.:D makes it look nicer..

I wouldn't go with lucky bamboo/ money plant.
the real bamboo plant is ok.

My absolute favorite is hibiscus. But, it is a bit more difficult to care compared to dwarf umbrella, ficus, and pothos.

I love ficus alii. My lowes had a bunch of 4+ft ones last year. I bought two and they died in the cold :(. Hoping they get more this year. Been looking everywhere

They will only grow outdoors in southern CA and southern FL. I have one in the enclosure now, and have one on order, but they are having trouble locating one.

@timw1 I've seen a few places online that sell them, but always sketchy reviews getting large trees shipped. I brought mine in and had them in the basement with a space heater. It went out while I was on vacation and they died almost immediately. They are the perfect tree for chams IMO. I might see if any local nurseries can get some in.
