Best hygrometer/thermometer

Hey everyone so I guess with my new set up I got a crappy one so what's the best one in your opinion and why? Thanks!

zilla makes a pretty good one for $20. it has a separate senders for temp and humidity on generous 56" leads. records highs/lows of each. bear in mind the sensor for the humidity needs to be out of the direct stream of water, in order to measure the humidity, so you need to secure it under a leaf or something. i have bought several different models over the years but the zilla has been my favorite.

in technical terms, measuring humidity is problematic, especially where digital ones are concerned. there are actually several different types of hygrometers and ways of measuring humidity. a chilled mirror is one of the more accurate types, but relatively expensive and rather bulky, and needs cleaning regularly so not well suited for cham cages.

as far as relatively economical ones that are well suited for cham keeping, i vote zilla. i have a couple i have had for over 5 years with no problems.
there is a pic of one in post #6 of this thread

I like the ones that have separate remote you place in cage to transmit to a digital display. I use the Weather Channel Brand. They had them at walmart on sale when I picked them up last year or so.If you go that route you have to make sure The device reads both in/outdoor temps and humidity. Bonus you get a nice display to set on your desk or wall that reads indoor temps dates ect. depending on what you get. They sell them basic and some will tell me when a thunderstorm is about to happen in the cage:cool:

AGREE 100 percent!!! i have a zilla hooked up to my large free range, it gets misted, the sensors have gotten wet..as soon as they dry they read just fine again..

the main reason i reccomend this version is because it passed the calibration test (capfull of table salt, just moistend in a ziplock baggie for 6 hours...it showed the perfect 75 percent humidity!!):D

I use teh Western Caliber III. If its good enough for very expensive cigars, its good enough.
