Best kind of misting system??

I'm having the hardest time keeping the humidity up in my veild's terrarium. We currently have the Little Dripper dripping system, which either constantly overflows the bowl at the bottom to catch the excess water falling from the leaves or drips so slow the humidity drops down to 30%. As is, we are looking into getting a misting system of some kind. I was looking them up on Amazon though, and most of the ones I found had a bunch of reviews about the product breaking within a few months.

What kind of misting systems do y'all use that work well? I'm having to spray his cage every hour or two too keep the humidity up around 60ish. Which isn't a big deal on the weekends, but I'm gone 9-10 hours for work every day during the week and I don't want the baby to get dried out. I'd love to hear what systems work for y'all.

Either the Mistking or the Aquazamp systems are great, they're both really dependable and both have really great customer service.

I went with the MistKing starter system and love it. It effectively wets the area I have set up for catching water with fake foliage and such, without spraying through the screen at all (on my 2'x2'x4' all screen enclosure) or soaking the entire cage.
The timer that comes with it is awesome too and allows for tons of customization for your watering schedule.

So, just to understand, the dripper is over flowing the bowl, or not coming out enough. Correct? A misting system would definitely help with this issue. It will just take a couple days to get it just right. You know, where its drying enough between misting sessions. I went with the Aquazamp. I am a sucker for made in USA products. I also like the Rain dome feature you can get with the Aquazamp. Mist king has a similar nozzle type. The rain dome simulates rain, rather then just a mist. I really love the big water drops you get from it. So do my chams. It can be put in a specific area on top of the cage so the entire cage isn't getting rained on, thus allowing your cham to choose whether they want to be directly under it or not. I went back and forth between zamp and king. Both pumps can run dry with no damage. I for sure know that the zamp can, I ran it dry my first day. Both systems have the rain simulator, how ever, mist kings rain simulator looked as if it would cause a lot of over spray. The zamp dome is a mister enclosed in a square container, while the king rain simulator is tubing in an arch form with a mister that faces down. I can vouch for zero over spray from zamp. It definitely takes up more space then the king rain simulator probably does, but like I said, you have zero over spray with it. Which is nice if you have lights and things on the top of your cage. Do you have a drainage system?


Aquazamp also has the option of ordering a complete kit. With the reservoir and all. Which is what I went with, because I like things to be easy. I did not want to have to drill holes in a bucket to mount the pump. If this is not an issue with you, you can also order the "express" system, which does not come with a reservoir with holes already drilled. King does not have the option of ordering a reservoir with it. It does bump up the shipping price a bit when you add the reservoir.

Zamp was incredibly helpful. They even got back to me within an hour on a Sunday to answer questions I had. Im not saying mist king wouldn't do this. Im just telling you my personal experience with Aquazamp.

Why does it need to be high? Veileds are not from a very humid climate and 30% is just fine. I would instal a drainage system and get a Tom's aqua lifter to set up an automatic dripping system. It is much cheaper and will work better for your Veiled.

I was wondering the same thing. I do not own a veiled though, so I figured I probably shouldn't say 30 percent is just fine from what I have read. I do not have any personal experience with veiled chameleons. I know that it is good for chameleons to have peaks of humidity as well as lows.

Humidity is largely affected by how well planted your setup is. Do you have any pictures? Also is the cage screen on all sides? Covering a couple of sides will help keep up the humidity as well.

I was wondering the same thing. We just rescued a female veiled and we only received the enclosure and some plastic foliage. I'm looking at how best to keep her environment at the right temp/humidity.

Live plants will help tremendously!!! Pothos and schefflera are my go to plants.

Humidity debate aside, I still think that an auto mister is an incredible tool for anyone if they can afford the $120 it costs to buy and ship one to their door. It's such a relief to have their water on an automated system, because if anything happens (say you're sick and spend 3 days on the couch or have to take off and leave town a few days, etc.) you know that their water is still taken care of. It makes traveling possible without having to have someone come by to mist 3-5 times a day. And in day to day life, it just means that if you have a busy day and don't come home until late that your chameleon still gets the water it needs, without waiting on you to re-fill the drippers or spray the cage down.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me buying my first Mistking was life-changing lol I don't know what I would do without automated misting. Made chameleon keeping sooo much easier for me.

Although Veiled Chameleons are forgiving, hardy creatures and can tolerate lower spells of humidity, they do better in humidity levels between 50%-70% with higher humidity levels at night.

Totally agree with you and Olympia. Life changing, and Cham changing for sure. A misting system IMO should just be something that is considered a basic necessity when it comes to owning a chameleon. Like having branches. Or gut loaded insects. You just have to have one. You have no idea how much better life for you, and your chameleon is until you take that plunge and spend the $120.


Like Olympia said, it's worked wonders for my busy days. I have three children 7 years old and younger. I'm a busy lady. Or for instance, take my recent hospital visit into consideration. I had to have emergency surgery. I spent close to a day or so in the hospital. Do you think my husband had any idea how to care for my chameleons? LOL not a chance. My 7 year old can take better care of them. Thanks to the misting system, me being gone for a day, was not a problem at all. My husband was so busy trying to take care of three kids he never even fed the chameleons, but you can guarantee they were hydrated. Missing that one feeding session isn't going to hurt them. They could probably use a little cut back in food haha

Personally I have a Mistking. I have had zero problems with the pump, but did have my timer die after just under 3 years of service.

The only issue I have had with the spray heads is calcium buildup because I use a lot of tap water. This is easily fixed by using distilled water or R.O. water. You can also soak your spray heads in vinegar to remove the deposits.

I did have an issue with decreased spray volume at about 1 year in but this was fixed by removing the spray head and cleaning the tiny sediment screen located inside.

I wish they would come up with an in-line filter for the system.

Otherwise no problems.

We use MistKing and love it! Works great! We have it set up over the cage and it seems to work better then having it in the cage. It leaves water droplets there all day long and our Chams now know it's always there and will go up and just drink from it.

I have not found this to be the case. I have found that when they are kept at such high humidity levels (much higher than their natural environment) they tend to develop respiratory infections and eye problems.

However, I completely agree with Olimpia in that an automated water system is the way to go. I use the Tom's aqua lifter in conjunction with a cheap timer. Hassle free water for ~$30.
