Best place to buy blue bottle flies

Looking to buy and curious of experience with some reputable places that are decent on price?

What do you gut load them with?

Anything you normally use. I sprinkle a little bit of cricket crack on an orange. I leave a few pupae in the bottom of the cage and you can leave the orange next to the pupae. That way when they hatch they can eat right away. When they hatch they are usually starving and thirsty I've noticed. Or you can keep the pupae in a container with a screen lid and place your gutload in there. Then when they hatch you release them in the cage. I've only been using flies for the last month or so. So I'm curious if others have different techniques.

Today I'm going to buy some bee pollen and I'm going to crush it up and sprinkle that in oranges or apples and see how that goes ; )

Looking to order some but cannot decide on Spikes or pupae? Is there pros and cons to either

from what ive read the spikes last longer in the fridge 1-2 months as opposed to 3-4 weeks for the pupae... im going with the pupae at first, just to see how they go over with my chameleons.. if they work out i'll probably order spikes the next time... just dont want to have them hanging around in my fridge if the chams arent interested.. :)

also the pupae will be closer to becoming flies and i want to be able to use them soon.... ;) lisa

Gotcha! So I am assuming you take out a handful of pupae frothe fridge and put in a separate container or the Cham cage to hatch? I see you guys were talking about gut load but will they really have time to gut load prior to the Cham finding them and eating them or are they pretty good feeders on their own without gut load?

Correct. They will hang out for a bit on an orange, apple or grape before they start flying around. Like I said, I notice that they are really thirsty right when they hatch.

I gutload them with fruits, honey and bee pollen. To get more nutrition out of them Ill dust them with some spirulina or wheat grass powder before feeding off. I have had BB flies themselves last months in the fridge. I just take out what I need, let the spikes or pupae do their thing (whichever I am needing to have) and then toss back in the fridge.

Yeah, I heard honey was good too but I really don't want to deal with a sticky mess.

If you'll buy spikes and your looking for great pricing, with free shipping, I doubt if you'll find anyone cheaper then JaDa Bait (www.jadabait.biz). Only $14.50/1000, less in larger quantities.
