Best roach alternative?

My parents won’t let me get any form of roach, I’ve been feeding Marvin(5 months old male veiled) crickets gutloaded with repashy, wax worms as a treat to tame him, and some greens. The problem is I know they need more variety. What’s a good alternative?

You could try hornworms if you can get your hands on some. Reptile expos usually have them they are rather pricey though. I got some for my chams and they seem to like them. Plus it's a health alternative since they aren't as fatty and provide more protein than some other choices.

No hornworms aren’t staples and showed only be feed 3 times a week. They are high in water and can dehydrate your Chamaeleon and cause diarrhea

Yes. I know they aren't a staple, but mixed in with crickets, wax worms, and greens like they're doing would be a good variety, right?
Also, if they are high in water, how could they get dehydrated? I thought they were a good treat for a dehydrated chameleon because they had so much water.

Looking forward to reading the responses. My wife also said no to roaches for me. So I'm going to do crickets, silk worms, super worms, and blsf. Roaches will be hidden and used sparringly until I can get her to agree to them
Aww that sucks. Buy her something she likes when you get your roaches so the pretty new thing distances her while you play with your bugs

I brought a colony of roaches into the house the other day:

Husband: what's that?
Me: bugs
Husband: what kind?
(Why is he asking me this?! Usually he just rolls his eyes at me when I bring in bugs)
Me: dubia
Husband: what's a dubia?
(seriously?! He usually has zero interest in my bugs)
Me: dubia are insects
(see how I didn't say roaches?)
Husband accepts vague answer, loses interest, resumes TV watching as I duck downstairs to my bug room. Lol

Omg you just said all 3 of them stuff I need to sneak in as well!! You can never have to many bugs or yarn lol
SO TRUE!
do you knit?
Definitely no such thing as too much yarn; I have a large stash. The other day my kid asked me if I had any yarn he could use for something. Stupid question so I said "no, I don't think I have any yarn." and the look on my husband's face was priceless, he was incredulous, thinking I was actually serious. I laughed and laughed.

I crochet and knit.

My his was moving my yarn bags/boxes the other day and said “wow I don’t think you have enough yarn” I gave him the look that said “ don’t challenge me boy. Hobby lobby is just down the street and I need chameleon supplies anyways lol”

Diarrhea = dehydration, Chameleons convert all water intake into Uric acid so if the urate is runny it’s wasted water.

Ha! That's awesome. That same exchange could play out at my house. I crochet as well though been knitting more lately.

Sorry OP, we got way off topic!
Agree with Zevil, they look like beetles so maybe tell your parents that! Lol
