Best way to house crickets

I am going to be doing an order of 500 crickets very soon. I was wondering what everyone does and uses to house crickets in volume. Any advice, tips, tricks, and pictures of what you do would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

A large bin, like a rubbermaid one( Doesnt have to be rubbermaid), Cut out the top and sides and hot glue screen to the openings for ventilation. WHATEVER YOU DO.... Use aluminum screening, I just found out crickets will chew through the fiberglass/plastic screen LOL.. and some egg flats or loads of toilet paper/paper towel rolls to create more surface space for them. :)

I personally think the very best way to keep crickets would be at my neighbors house. I offered, they declined.:( I order crickets about 4,000 at a time.

I've always used the egg crates that came with the crickets and just laid them flat in my bin, then, my husband had an awesome idea the last order I got in...instead of laying the egg crates flat, he suggested lining them up vertically. To my amazement, fewer dead ones!

i thought about doing this as well like i do w/ my dubias but the egg crates are too tall so they can escape by climbing to the top of the egg crate. of course i can cut the egg crate to make it short. i'll try it out and see if it helps w/ my die offs...

We were sooo tired of die-offs too! I don't mind spending on feeders as long as i can get them to live long enough to use them! Seems to help us, so hope it does for anyone else too.:)

I just learned this lil trick too!!! and the poops fall down rather than pooling in the crates

@ laurie....you made me lol on that!! hahaha :D

That's the way I've always done it just made sense to me from the get go ;) makes it so the cricket take longer to stink as well

This is my favorite cricket bin. It is pictured upside down here. The poop falls through or just dries out very cleanly. Just float it above a tray or a second bin to catch the poop.

Yah, I'm a little slow on the uptake sometimes as far as doing this little trick from the get go!LOL Better late than never. I love the idea of drilling holes on the bottom too. Learn something new every day, right?! Charging up the drill as we speak. Love a good opportunity to fire up the power tools!

Well I went and picked up a Hot Glue gun today and I will be making my Cricket house this week sometime. THanks for the ideas, tips, and pictures. If anyone has anything else please feel free to share.

Well once it warms up a bit here I am going to place an order for 500 crickets and build me one of these. Hopefully it all works out.
