has anyone transported a panther chameleon in there car for a few hours? what should i use? i was thinking a small cage screen cage or a cat carrier with towels. one thing that is off topic but might have something to do will transporting. i want to order 2 eggs that were lied 5 month ago will shipping kill them? is it work the risk? if you have ever shipped eggs please help

The best thing is something small like a small box with a towel on the bottom. The less space he has the less likely he is to roll around uncontrolably in the box, and the darkness will keep him calm. He might even fall asleep! I've used baby cages as well with a towel or something thrown over it to keep it darker.

As for the eggs, Don't do it! Not all eggs will hatch, so it's a really bad bet paying for two eggs that might not ever hatch. It's just the nature of the beast, there's never really a 100% hatch rate. And if you ship them it will probably destroy the baby within, you can't flip the eggs around once they've started to develop because the embryo will form on the top of the egg, above the yolk, and if you turn it the baby might end up on the bottom and crushed.

I wouldn't really trust anyone that will ship eggs, honestly.

Even if the eggs were good to begin with, you can not roll an egg. Shipping them will almost guarantee that they will be no good (again, assuming they were any good to begin with).

And as Olimpia said....if someone is even MENTIONING shipping eggs...I would not trust anything that has to do with their animals at all.

As for the car transporting.....what I do is take a bucket, put a small towel on the bottom, and then put a short stick of biovine and fake leaves (I think I bought the short one for like $7 its bout 5' long). Just bent it into a circle and put it in there so he had something to hang onto rather than sitting on the flat floor.

In my experience, my cham will usually grab the stick that is right up against the side of the bucket and lean in securing himself for the ride. Granted, I take him to the vet like this and its only about a 20min ride, but it seems plenty secure enough to make it longer (and I can put crix in there without them jumping out cause of the height of the bucket)

thank you guys for the help

i dont thing i am going to order the eggs. thanks for the ideas for transporting my new panther chameleon.:D

Im not sure I totally agree. I have (accidentally of course) dropped a container of incubating eggs. After a fall of about 3 feet, rolling and bouncing on the floor, being picked up and put back in new vermiculite - they all eventually hatched. It depends how far along in development they are, as to whether movement will effect them.

Which is not to say I suggest shipping eggs with a courier or such. I think it would be too great a risk. But putting if you pick up a container and carefully drive it home, I think that would potentially be okay.

I transport chameleons in shoeboxes when driving an hour to the vet.

I know someone who has been shipping eggs with 100% hatch out but the eggs must be shipped right away after being laid or within the first month and packed very very snug. Like stated above eggs shipped that late in development is most likely going to kill the embryo :(
As far as traveling with an adult, I have had success using a cricket keeper with plastic leaves and vines in it wrapped in a towel, same concept as mentioned above:) good luck!

I can't help you with the egg shipping question. But I have 5 panthers that I've traveled with before, 12 hours each way, no problems whatsoever. I have one of those "kritter keepers" they sell at the pet store for each of my chams. I put a paper towel in the bottom of each carrier, and wedge a thick stick in there too. I take my cloth recycle bags and stack a carrier on top of each other. I've done this trip 3 times with my chams and they're fine.
