Bindi update:Still no eggs and VERY worried

:D about the same as it does with the other females in the house hehe Just kidding

Haha. yea I dont listen to my hubby either.

'When a woman says 'what' its not because she didn't hear you. its because she's giving you time to change your answer.

Still Nothing...:(

She was in her bin all weekend and nothing. I am staring to wonder if the sand is too coarse and or to wet for her liking. she is being ultra picky.. I will try tonight to add some peat mixed in to dry it out and lighten the sand.

Otherwise is it time for Oxytocin??? and for those of you who have been through it when and how often? does she come home after the shot or stay there?

My concerns--She is healthy, eating and drinking. Her color is kind of dark and even brown for my liking but she seems ok...I dont want to do OXY if she will lay on her own. BUT I really dont want to walk in to my baby girl dead.

More advice and thought please...Its been about 3 weeks since the ex-ray with the eggs shown earlier. she has been digging/scratching around (but no real holes) for about a month now...

my female layed yesterday finally. i think she had eggs before yours. it took her forever and she only started digging around the day before she layed. i was worried sick cuz she stopped eating for week; however, now shes eating drinking and happy as ever. yours may not be ready yet. give her privacy and diffrent spts to lay. mine dug up a flower pot so i stuck her in her bin and she started digging and layed. hope that helps :)

Could you call the vet an ask if hr has any idea fron the xray how soon you should expect her to lay? That might help you feel better if he says she still has a week or two.

okiroo-Thanks its good to hear another story that ended happy...,

yeah maybe shes not Jann...thats what i keep hoping. Ill probably have her out today since im gonna test her sand-etc. (assuming there are no new holes) and snap an updated photo.

Laurie, ill touch base he did not seem to have an idea at the time but said they were not really calcified yet..thats all i remember.

wel not calcified means that they were of course not ready to be laid.
so if they havent developed completely yet, then of course she wont lay them.

cami--yes but he said this about 3 weeks ago..any ideas on how long it takes to be calcified..?

umm i read something that says it can take 3-6 weeks from copulation. to lay.

so even though she wasnt bred, its possible that it can take 3-6 weeks to lay infertiles once the development process begins....

heres a current pic of her tonight. i checked her soil and it was very wet due to all the misting ive been doing. i dug a bit and it was water. i added a bunch of dry peat mix and dug a test hole and put her back in.

haha glad you liked it!
and as for th epicture, shes def got some eggs going on.
id say she should lay within the week.
just make sure her sand tunnels wont collapse on her and let her be.

if you catch her digging, DONT let her see you!

well its almost another week..well once the weekend gets here. she is eating, drinking and overall active/healthy. she just roams in circles in her bin. no digging that i have seen..

any thoughts?

Pulling your hair out is always good. But I sent a pm to Ferret to try and get you some help. Sorry I can't help.

Hmm. Tough one. One option would be to get another X-ray done to see if they are fully calcified. Sometimes our estimates are off based on the individual metabolism of the animal. It can also show if they are too calcified (can happen if retained too long), or if perhaps there is one really big egg blocking the rest (seen it in turtles). In either case it would be best to know now so you can get her to surgery to remove the eggs before she starts having problems. Being strong and healthy at the time of surgery is much, much safer than being weak or compromised. Or if everything looks good you can give her some more time or talk to your vet about considering oxytocin. Given she's been like this for weeks now it's hard to say if she's uncomfortable because she can't lay, is ready but looking for the perfect spot, or ready but needs a little nudge.

As long as she is acting fine, is strong and looks healthy you're not in trouble yet. Any signs of discomfort though and it's time to make a move quickly. It sounds like you've tried a few different substrates for her to lay in. If you have a really big laying bin you could have an area of dirt mix and an area of sand so she has both to chose from at the same time. I would not be moving her at all. Make enough of a home with her laying bin that she has the least amount of handling (or seeing you) as possible. Any disturbances whatsoever can mess them up and make them wait longer.

I know it's frustrating to watch and wait! My poor iguana was eggbound and had surgery to remove her eggs. That was 16 years ago and I still remember being so worried for her! At least she made it obvious. Her belly was enormous and so uncomfortable that she wouldn't let it touch the ground. It was weird to see an iguana standing like a dog rather than a lizard!
