Black Veileds?

I know its a matter of personal preference, but always seems odd to me that anyone would want to breed for a lack of changeable color (translucent, hypermelanistic) in animals that are known for their color change.

I have to agree. I personally have never found the other variations of this species appealing at all. I've always felt it was a step backwards in their evolutionary achievements, just IMO.....not to be ugly to those who own and like the variation.

I had just never seen nor heard of black (hypermelanistic) veiled chameleons before just wanted to know if it was real and of the photos I found it looks like only the 5th is really hypermelanistic and still not truly "Black
".

Also seems like the hypermelanistic morph was a fad after Translucents hit the US market and just went away where as Translucents are still breed and sold.

I got a 6 month veiled female cham and she has been dark in her cage for 2 days today she started exploring more and looking around since the days before she was just hiding will this eventually go away ? When I take her out so she can climb on me her colors turn green so is it her cage that stresses her ?

You need to get ready for eggs. Veiled females can produce (infertile) eggs without mating. They usually take on the bright and black colours when they are producing the eggs.

You need an egg laying bin in the cage at all times now and when she starts digging, don’t let her see you watching her or she might head towards eggbinding…and need surgery to remove the eggs. Hopefully she will lay them naturally.

Also, if they are over fed, the clutch size can be huge and cause reproductive issues.
