Very cool! I am sure he loves it!! I have an indoor cage, outdoor cage now, and stuff on my patio for free range! Join the club of your cham "taking over" your house! lol!!

Thanks Carol...he woke up this morning and had this look.."something is different"..haha and started exploring his new jungle...:)

yes he does...and that makes it that much harder to find him in the morning or when we get back from work lol...chams are pretty damn good at what they do!

Did his personality or aggression change like some people have said? Was he aggressive before or anything prior to letting him climb out? Thanks!

Lil nasty...he is definitely calmer...male veileds are very territorial and i have learned that closing him in a cage just makes them more aggressive. he was never really mean but he used to run away from us as soon as we opened the door, now he is way more relaxed, eats from our hand, and doesn't move away when we get close to him. he loves going back and forth between his cage and free range and we also take him outside and on the balcony a lot. he is sleeping on the branch on top of the highest plant right now, showing us who us the "king of the castle"...lol. if you can accomodate it i would definitely recommend a free range set-up. i just love seeing our little guy climbing around :)

Free range....

Yeah, of both my guys one tolerates the cage very well my other guy pretty much hates it... when in the cage he looks dark colored most times and he also acts completely different, he is much more relaxed and calm when he is allowed out and about.... but the both enjoy being out in general.

Definitely agree with that Gensen...he is more relaxed and that makes us happy :D

I can also say that i recently started doing this exact same set up and it's awesome! He goes in and out very frequently, so i know he is getting his water, heat (I see him bask frequently), and UVB. But he has definitely become less nervous around me. He still has yet to approach me unless I have food, though time will tell.

Wait until you get more! Cages take up lots of space!

I completely disagree with the belief that cages make chameleons more aggressive, and free ranges make them 'happier.' My male veiled was completely terrified and stressed out when I tried free ranging him. He likes his cage, and in his cage he will stay. The only place outside of his cage that doesnt seem to stress him out is outdoors time.

My now 'friendly' panther (who is free ranged) did not have a sudden temperament change. In fact, he lived in a cage for many months. He gradually got less and less scared of me, and eventually began to climb out for rides. After this happened I started to free range him for part of the day. He stopped liking his cage, but he was still friendly regardless.
