Not at all, but that would be a shot that I would love to get. Unfortunately, I can't get him to eat a single bite of anything when out of his cage. He has an awesome tongue that I really want to capture, but shooting it in his cluttered cage doesn't make for a great photo. The previous owner said he would eat out of his cage for him, so maybe with time. I've only had him out of his cage maybe 8 times and have had him less than 2 months, so maybe with time. If anybody has any ideas to get him to, please let me know.werent you worried your cham was going too i dunno... eat that mantid/
I have a few of these subadult Idolo mantises for my photography, but they don't get really cool looking until they are adult and having them molt to adult and living through it is a tough task. So they are pets, but if I can get my cham to eat out of his cage and get one of these to do a threat pose in front of him right before a tongue comes at him, then he will also be a food item. Wish me luck on getting that shot.....if everything pans out, I still have to time my finger right on the shutter button.I hope this dose not sound like a stupid ? - is the mantis a food item , or another pet? he is so pretty ( as are your cham and dog )
the mantis around here are just green - but its winter here, so none around right now ~ I see people say they feed the mantis - but that is one crazy looking food item ( if that is what he is - lol) a few yrs ago, the kids brought in every mantis egg case they found - lost them in the toy box, and in mid Feb, they ALL hatched - thousands of them in bed room - to bad I did not have a cham then
great pics !!
Thanks. Yeah, I know a ton of blog sites have them without giving me credit, but watermarking takes away from the photo, so I don't do it. I figure if somebody wants to buy it bad enough, then they can find me in Google. You need to start water marking your pictures with your copy rights. They are too good not too.
Take your time and work with him slowly. You seem to have his trust, the rest is down hill. Try to get him to eat from your hand while he is still in the cage and your hand is out. a month or so of that and he will be running out of the cage onto your hand looking for a treat.
Ed Kammer told me that Hissing roaches were his preferred bug for teaching hand feeding since they are slow and don't run much.. I've had great success with hand feeding hissers too.
During the summer I have a friend that give me his inch worms from his organic garden. My Chams go stupid crazy for those when the worm starts walking. You can also try silk, horn or wax worms.
Thanks. Yeah, I didn't go back and look, but I think I commented on one of your dog's pics a week or two ago.....sorry if it wasn't you. He turns 4 next month. Got him in Oklahoma City. Those are outstanding shots, your animals are gorgeous....how old is your dog and where did you get him.......my lab looks like his twin brother.
