Breeding age

At what age would you breed a female panther chameleon? I don't want to breed too early. I had purchased a Jackson's chameleon that was about five months old and unknown to me she came fully pregnant. I thought that was a little young to be bred

This Is verying opinions on this subject. Imho, i believe 1 year old and she should weigh at least 60 gr. It is a lot of work so make sure you weigh all of the factors before you breed. Good luck.

I agree with Scott on this one. A year or older and of a good healthy weight.

Most people agree that the female should be a year old and somewhere around 65 to 70 grams. Lots of people that are trying to pump out babies faster will say they can be bred younger due to the fact that they are not going to wait until they are a year old in the wild; however, most people fail to take into account the fact that the babies produced are much smaller, much more frail and most likely do not survive. You know, Darwin and Natural selection and all... survival of the fittest and whatnot..

That's kind of what I thought. I was very surprised when my 7 -month-old Jackson spit out 19 babies. I kind of thought she was pregnant but wasn't sure she wasn't around a male at my place.
Babies are now six weeks old

Um, there is no way your jacksons was seven months old, they have a gestation period that is around 6 months, maybe longer. She would of had to have been bred when she was 1 month old.

Mine must be at least 18 months old. Then, I look at weight and healthiness of individual. Previous infertile egg laying also comes into my consideration. After, 3-4 clutches they are retired (given away or kept as household mascot).
