Breeding Panther Chameleons

I have a male and a female now. I need to let them chill out a bit, since the male has just made his way into my home today. He actually was pretty cool, and wanted me to just let him climb around my neck and check things out. On the other hand the female is so mad at me it isnt even funny, because she saw a glimps of him. Oh wow... anyway question being.. How old does the male need to be to garenttee that the eggs will be fertile this time? She has breed before with a male, and double clutched. Both batches were infertile, so I would like to try with the new male. How long on average does it take for them to hatch? and is there a prefered way that any of you may incubate the eggs?

Breeding

Hi a male panther could breed at 6 months old but a lot of people wait till they're 12 months old. Panther eggs could take a short as 6 months all the way up to 9+ months and with the eggs just put them in the warmiest room in ur home, like a closet etc.

Thanks :) I thought so. She just had bad luck the first time, but was also a month short of being a year old. I will try again when I feel they won't try to beat the crude out of eachother. The female is still mad at me for seeing me playing with the new male. For just meeting me he was very loving :) I'm excited to try for more babies, and wish the best of luck for myself and everyone else.

also make sure that you are uping her Calcium intake before you are thinking of breeding, while your waiting for her to lay and also after she lays. You might want to look into getting Calcium Gluconate drops for this. The reason for this is because it takes alot of calcium for the whole process of producing and laying the eggs.

I have been giving he more calcium already, and did that through her whole first time of laying eggs. It was just sad that they were infertil... :( its been months since I have breed her, so I guess she is really almost 2 now. She was born in January. Breed December 2010, double clutched, and none were fertile.

yeah, hopefully she will lay some fertile ones this time around! You should post some pitures of them!!

?? I think ur confusing males with females.... Breeders don't really mind breeding a male Cham at an early age... Some breeders don't breed females the are under a year but definetly not males... I think any/all breeders would breed out any age Male if it's was ready....

Yea, from what I understand the male's age isn't quite as important. Since it poses no real "cost" for him to breed. 7 months is a good minimum age. I suppose just wait until she becomes receptive again and try introducing them.

That said, since you just got him I would keep him separate from her for at least a couple months anyway just so he doesn't give anything to your female that will get them both ill. Quarantine him, essentially.

Thanks for that comment :) makes me feel better, because I want to breed the two I have now together. The male she first breed with was 6 months, and I started to have doubts about the two of mine. Mine is almost 7 months old.

He is in quarantine since I got him. I want to make sure he is healthy enough. I was also going to make sure I wait a couple months to make sure they both won't hate eachother. Once the female relaxes down I'm going to work with her so she will trust me again. I just feel bad that I ticked her off :(

many males under 9 months arent fertile. most males once they hit 12 months are. The bigger guys will be ready earlier. As for the female, dont breed her till shes 12 months old, and dont breed the hell outa her, you will greatly reduce her life.

Yeah I'm not quite ready to try to breed her again for a couple months, and want to work with the male more. Just got him yesterday, but he's a lot bigger then I thought he would be. He already likes me, but I want to make sure he is comfortable with everything.

Not accurate. You can breed male pardalis as young as 6 mos. I wait til mine are closer to a yr old. And thats to let them mature and use all their energy and caloric intake on growing healthy bodies not because they are infertile.
