Brown Veiled

I'd have to chalk alot of this up due to misinformation from the pet store.

Anyways, I'm feeding her live crickets. I feed he crickets Fluker's high calcium diet the calcium water. I was dusting the crickets with the phosphorous free D3 powder every 2 weeks. What type of multivitamin do I need to be giving her?

that flukers stuff isnt that good. find blogs from sandrachameleon about gutloading.

calcium without d3 is to be used every feeding.

calcium with d3 twice a month
and a multivitamin twice a month.

Don't feel bad! There's a ridiculous amount of misinformation. I was subject to it as well only a few short months ago. This forum has helped me tremendously.

Properly gutloaded crickets are a pretty good feeder. However, I'd recommend trying to get some variety into her diet. Hornworms, silkworms, locusts, cockroaches, superworms. Variety is the spice of life!

Camimom, may I ask is that the Repashy calcium plus that can be used with every feeder?
 
Samhain138, just to clarify there are two recommended/accepted supplementation schedules.

1) calcium (no d3) every feeding
calcium with d3 once every two weeks
Multivitamin once every two weeks

2) repashy calcium plus with every feeder

Anyway, how are your girl's colours today?
 
I'M starting to turn colors!

Last night when she was sleeping she was almost a glowing green color and all day she's stayed that dark brown color. Her temperatures are right, she's eating, she's active she's just not changing. Is there anything I can do to help alleviate her stress?

She did turn green for a little while when I was watching her, but then she went back to brown shortly after. I snapped a picture.

Hmmmm.

Where is her enclosure located in your house? Is it sitting on the floor? Are people walking by very regularly? Next to an AC?
 
She's in her own quiet part of the house near the back door through the kitchen. People do walk through there, but not frequently enough to disturb her.

Is there even the slightest chance I'm overreacting a bit? It's worrying me alot.

My take on it is as follows-

There have been a couple of things in your husbandry that are a little off, the night light and suplimentation. I'm sure none of these issues will cause any lasting damage if corrected promptly.

You have had some very helpful nice folks reply to you and now you know what you need to change.

I would think that these changes would need to be implemented for a few days at least to see if your Cham gets happier and feels the benefit of them so I wouldn't worry too much.

That's my 2 cents :)

The general consensus is that either veiled's go through an adolescent "brown" period or that she may be going to shed soon.

Hopefully (although I can't say with any certainty) it's one of these two things.

If it is still going to bug you then why not try to get to a good herp vet? One member on here said "if in doubt, check it out".

If you don't know of one give an approximate location and if they can someone on here will point you to a good vet.
 
I want to go ahead and thank everyone who's been helping me with this, I appreciate the corrections. I'm going to get right on correcting my supplimentation, and I've already stopped running the night light and stabilized my temperatures during the day. I'm planning on attending a reptile convention locally and I hope to try and check out some of the enclosures they have there.

I'd heard that this is a phase that veiled's sometimes go through, but I never saw anyone actually confirming it. Her behaviors not any different that I can tell, and her sleep colors an almost glowing green color. I know a local vet who specializes in exotic reptiles who I can have check her out if things don't change.

But like I said, I want to thank everyone for the help and I'll keep you posted!

You may have answered his but how far is the farthest your chameleon gets from your UVB bulb? A reptisun 5.0 has a max uvb distance of 12 inches. I have had my female veiled since a juvenile and never experienced the brown that I see in your photos. Very puzzling to me actually. Like others have said a few things are incorrect in your husbandry. Monitor your temps carefully. Hope all is well. Take care.:)
