Building lots of cages!

well this is a little time off yet, so i'm going to prep and try to go about this well informed and prepared.

so i have a spare room that is not going to be doing anything at all, so i'm planning on makeing about 6 or more vivs (like the ones in pet shops), hopefully there will be 3 or 4 per bank of vivs.

i'm going to use silicone sealant to seal all the gaps, and cut holes in the top and back for heat lamps, light tubes, thermostat and dripper.

i'm going to place a larger vented hole in the back with a fan on the back (simular to the ones used in computers) for airflow.

the fronts with probably be slideing glass doors rather than hinged or mesh's, i know this will restrict airflow but i'm going to creat some vents in the top above the glass.

as i say, this is way in advanced and just a rough idea. anyone got any suggestions or pointers?

Id put the vents on the bottom under the glass doors....that way as warm air is rising and going out top vent, cool air will come in the bottom......also, put the fans on these bottom vents....that will help with this...but one thing is that fan motors produce heat....so might wanna think about that to. Now if u put fan on top vent, have it drawing air out and that will keep that warm motor air out as well.

anyone know what i could do to waterproof the wood? because it's probably going to be MDF or something similar, and i want to make it waterproof and safe for whatever i keep in there.

Hey there. I work at a place called Art attack in Edmonton Alberta Canada, and I beleave I have discoverd the perfect sealent for wood that is safe. I carve form in to amusing chacters for amusment parks and entertainment centers. It gets coated in plastice and painted. We used to epoxy these sculptures till we started useing a new product called hydrogloss, we get it from sherwin williums (paint supplyer). it is expensive, here it is $80 a gallon luckaly I get for free. it acts like a epoxy but it is not a two part chemical. It is water based, no vapor, water proof it is used in the marine industry for a coating on boats and such. it is almost nutral on the ph scale it is 8 to 8.5 somthing like that. drys in minits and is as hard as epoxy with two or three coats. I made a back drop for my veild chem and have hade no plroblums. find it, buy it, use it, it works. hydrogloss.
