Bulb and fixture wattage

so I live in the Philippines and reptiles supplies are so limited. eBay/Amazon is an expensive option and packages usually takes a month to arrive.

My friend gave me his spare t5 HO 5.0 linear lamp ( 22" and 24watt) the first only fixtures I can find are from hardware stores but has lower wattage.

Is it safe to use on a lower rated fixture?

It would work if it fit, however I would be afraid it would overheat if not rated for you HO wattage. See how much wattage the fixture is ratted for. They are both the same voltage if it fits, and it is rated to take the wattage it should work.

I am really clueless with regards to this. Already left the hardware store so gonna double check tomorrow. Just to be clear...

1. If fixture has higher watt than the bulb, good?

2. If the bulb has higher watt, overheat?

Yes. it has too fit, and it has to be rated to except the wattage of the bulb. I would take the bulb with you too make sure it fits.

That sounds about right for me. Let the others chime in.

Another thing you could do is, if you trust the person working at the hardware store, bring your bulb to them and ask them if that ballast will work with that bulb. (oops, I type too slow lol)

I am sure it fits just concerned on the watt difference. Not a100% sure but I think the fixture is 2watts lower than the bulb

Not 100% sure, but I don't think it will work then. The fixture can be higher than the bulb, but not vice versa. Like chitzkoy said if you trust the store clerk ask them.

Well I don't trust that sales guy, so I came here for advise lol. I would rather stay on the compact ones because the zoo med dome fixture is easy to acquire here. Would not risk my Cham or even my apartment lol

I am in Hong Kong so I know what you mean by some special products not being readily available in the local shops. Two things that I am considering that I cannot get here right now are the ZooMed Reptibreeze XL LED Deluxe model and Mist King.

On another subject, any chance you are living in Manila? I was there last month for an ice-hockey tournament. The rink is right by the Mall of Asia. I may be going there for another tournament again in November.
