Bulb issue

So I got a 40 watt bulb but it won't work in my fixture, where as the 60 watt vision does? I tested the bulb in a lamp and the bulb works fine. Why doesn't it work in the fixture?

It likely isnt making contact with...well, the contacts.

Unplug the fixture and see if you can bend the prong on the bottom up a bit.

If you are unsure how to do this, post a pic and I can give more info.

maybe the bulb is no good. Did you try it another lamp or something? I just went through this yesterday with my basking bulb. Took out a brand new bulb screwed it in and it didn't work. Tried it in another lamp, still didn't work! Bulb was bad!

I will take a look at the contacts now

I bent the metal prong on the bottom up and still no luck, the 60 watt still works tho...
Other ideas?

;/

Poltergeist?

That is really interesting. If its working in one socket, and not another.

Can you tell if its contacting the prong?

You could try cleaning the contacts a bit I guess.

Can you tell any differences in the two bulb ends?

You have not "started early" have you? It being memorial day and all?

I know I have! ;D

I'm in the uk lol, meant to be revising for exams!

The 40 watt bulb has a smaller metal point for the contact to meet the bulb. Other than that they are identical

Oh, lol.

We drink a LOT today ;D

The only other thing I can think to do them, is where the prong is bent, try angling it one way or another, until it makes contact. (get the angle on the jangle) ;D

Maybe compare one socket and the other for differences?

I agreed with the not making contact with the contacts theory.
Fialing that, just Try a different bulb. Maybe that particular 40watt is a bit defective and its just bad luck its contact isnt working with that particular fixture.

I've tried everything so I either by a new fixture or use the 60 watt and suspend it above the cage

he said exactly what i would have. its a pretty hefty ceramic fixture but it should still be making contact. it really sounds like its not going in deep enough

(insert made in china joke here)

if its anything like my fixtures the sockets should be interchangable with most hoods/domes.

if you dont have any spare sockets around you may want to concider getting an extender. they sell em in home depot, not sure where to go over there in the uk. and it may just be juat as inexpensive to get a very cheap clamp lamp from the hardware store.
