Bulbs

Hi, I was wondering if I should switch out one of my bulbs. The guy at the exotic pet store told me to use Repti Sun 10.0 but after reading about it, is it too hot? My cham is only 5, almost 6 months old. I have a Repti Sun 5.0 bulb coming in tomorrow, would that be safer?!

What size is your cage? Is it 36" or 48" tall? Is there plenty of shade from plants?

Lots of keepers use either the 5.0 or the 10.0. I would say you are probably okay if you have shade for your cham if he wants to get out if the light. It's not the "heat" of the bulb but the intensity of the nonvisible UVB radiation. Hold on to the 5.0 as a back up bulb.

I'm not sure how tall my cage is because the lady never told me. I was planning on getting a new one soon, she has shade to go to if she wants. I'll see her basking under the light all day, so I just wanted to make sure she was safe. Thank you! @Lathis

She seems to have a little black outline around her eyes. Do you have any idea what this could be? I take care of her very well.

I use a 10.0 as well because if you are shinning it through a screen you will loose a good portion of the UVBs right there. Like Lathis said if you have a way for her to get out of it she will be fine.

Okay thank you, I also use 100w heat bulb. The guy I talked to said that 100w heat bulb, and the ReptiSun 10.0 would be safe. Do you think she will?

A 100w seams a little hot to me what is your basking temps? Her being a female It shouldn't be over 85 degrees.
