AlrightMake sure to use Neosporin or a ointment WITHOUT painkillers. You can really hurt their kidneys if you do use a painkiller ointment.
I don’t know of any studies on this, but chameleons are definitely not endothermic and cannot maintain body temperature through metabolic action like a mammal can@MzLaurie said..."Check to see if its giving off heat"...I don't think chameleons give off heat for infections. They don't get fevers either to the best of my knowledge. Their cold blooded so they get their heat from outside sources and don't likely produce any. Anyone know any studies on this?
I am always honored when my thoughts are anywhere close to yours@DocZ said..."I have heard reptile vets recommend keeping reptiles warmer during the process of treating an infection. In mammals it makes the pathogen “uncomfortable” and hopefully more susceptible to their bodies immune system defenses. It’s possible maintaining a warmer temp for exothermic reptiles could accomplish a similar result"...exactly what I heard!
That’s an excellent point! I’ve never considered that from an exotherms perspective.Think you for the great comment! I'm honoured that our thoughts are close too!
It also helpful sometimes to know what the preferred temperature of the pathogen is IMHO.
That's exactly it! Adjust the temperature to make the pathogen as uncomfortable as possible! That’s an excellent point! I’ve never considered that from an exotherms perspective.
it could be with that info available, people could increase temps outside of the pathogens preferred range while not exceeding the reptiles tolerance range.
Very interesting insight!
Thank you all for your comments and helping me!I apologize to the OP for derinking the thread. Sorry about that.
I hope that tooI hope you get it checked out and solved.
