What kind of butterflies are safe for chams? Jackson to be more specific, but i guess it doenst matter. Would it be ok if i bought caterpillars and raised a few butterflies? Obviously as a treat, not daily feeders.
Thanks!

Painted ladies are good. i dont know of other kinds.
Mkae sure they are real painted ladies, not monarchs as these are poisonous.

I didn't know cham owners were really big into Painted Lady's, anyone else feed butterflies regularly?

I dont feed them regularly. but I bought a couple from a local nursery tht had them for gardens. my kink loved it.
Not a staple feeder, but good for something new, and it can help get them intrested in food, since it flies around and stuff.

Cabbage white butterflies, painted ladies, west coast ladies, american ladies, red admiral, buckeye butterflies, etc. A lot of moths are edible too.

Check out their host plants, and check to see if they are toxic online. Generally, bright colors mean stay away.

Our Jackson's chameleon Ruby LOVES butterflies and moths. In particular- the painted ladies. They are quite common in Northern California where we live, and especially in the warmer months. Each time we place them in our enclosure, Ruby hunts them down immediately. We also catch small golden field butterflies from time to time. She is a good eater generally speaking, but flying insects stimulate her to a whole different level.
