Butterworms

I'm a new "mommy" to a veiled Cham....I'm not sure of his age but I'm pretty sure he's about 3-4 months old...I got him from Petco and they were unsure of his age..hell, they were unsure about EVERYTHING. Well, I want to take extra special care of this little man, so I've need doing all the research I can. I've been feeding him crickets and mealworms...so tell me about butterworms?

I will let others elaborate, but they are high in calcium and smell sweet. I really like the way they smell. They are Chilean moth larvae and are imported from Chile.

Thank you! Are they used as a treat or part of a mainstream diet ?

They can be used as a staple, but keep in mind that it's recommended to not use any one feeder exclusively. Some say no feeder should make up more than 20% of their diet.

I try to order some worms from Mulberry Farms, but the shipping is way too expensive! How much does it cost you to pay for the shipping?

Sorry, I forgot to mention the shipping costs more then the worms!!

That's why I raise my own cricks and dubia's, shipping charges for live stuff is crazy!!

My Jacksons is the same, he does not recognize any kind of worm as food!!

I am not really surprised since I have read they prefer flying insects, so I
guess worms are not active enough to get his attention!!??

Anyway, I received my butterworm order yesterday from Mulberry Farms
and my other 3 guyz will eat them (Smeagol will eat anything!!).
It's my first time using them and they are a orange color, fat, and have a
interesting aroma :)

Is it possible to gut load them with stuff like kale?
My silkies eat carrots and green veggies, so I wonder if the butter's will too!

They will eat lightly steamed and cooled butternut squash. I haven't tried to feed them anything else.

I second that suggestion. Its the best option I've found them to eat.

But they'll also nibble carrots, apple, and other things. So offer then whatever you've got, see how it goes. Nothing you have on hand is going to be what they eat naturally, so they wont pig out on it.

Do thes guys bite? I have read some stores of folks saying you need to crush their head but I was just curious. Not sure I could do that :(

You're right, chameleons really are attracted to flying insects. When I put BBflies in the enclosures they act like it's Christmas morning. However, it seems once they get the taste of a butterworm (or any worms), they are hooked.
