Buying a Chameleon online

As above, is it advised to order a Chameleon online instead of in a store?

I have been looking at Faunatech who are a sister company of Viper and Vine pet store in Manchester, UK. Anybody used these before?

Better yet, can anybody recommend me a supplier that will ship to the UK or be located in the UK?

The only concern I have is ordering something online and either not liking the condition he/she is in. Or worse, something happening during transit...

Feel free to ease my mind :)

I wouldn't advise ordering online. It's best to get a good look of the little guy you want somewhere so you can determine it's health.

However, you may be able to find some online that have good "street-cred." I'm not sure of any that go to the UK.

I would look around here on the forums for a breeder in the uk , we have a classifieds ad. I can promise that any chameleon that you buy off a forum member will be just as good if not better.

There are two good breeders there. One in the north and one south. One is a lady. I can't remember the exact names, but there was a thread about 4-6 weeks ago that names them both. A little research into past posts would reveal them. Sorry I can't remember them. There have been several requests the past several weeks for a UK breeder. If you find it, pm me the link or their names so I can direct future traffic. Thanx and good luck.

Excellent! time to browse :)

A reputable company or breeder will have a live arrival guarantee or policy posted, and you should be able to check for reviews as to how well they work with or around that policy.

If you don't like the condition of the animal, you contact the seller and let them know - this is where it's helpful to look for reviews, as even with bad experiences if you scroll through to see what the company does to take care of the customer, you can see if in that situation, that's how you'd want to be treated.

I am not sure who you can order from in the UK, but researching the person beforehand is usually the best thing to do. A breeder with a smaller inventory can probably evens end you pictures of the exact babies for sale so you can pick the one you want. :)

I have bought over 20 chameleons off the internet and had minimal problems, none that could not be solved in a couple days. I recommend buying online over a pet shop. If you contact one of the site sponsors or senior members from classifieds you will have no problem. Ordering is super easy

Are you anywhere near viper and vine in Manchester. I've not been but I believe they have a good reputation.
I cannot comment on link you have as I haven't had any dealings with, I have heard of them though.
The one I see getting most positive reviews about are www.chameleonworldmuji.co.uk

Cheers

That's nice info, thanks!

Following a quick browse I have found Chameleoco (who i think is on here)

http://www.chameleoco.co.uk/

Anybody ever used before?

Yes - I got my male Veiled from there 3 months ago and they are absolutely brilliant. They have a store just outside Preston, Lancashire, down the road from me - the owner Jamie breeds all his own Chams - I'm getting a Panther from him in a few weeks. He sells a huge variety of live foods, including Silkworms and I honestly cannot recommend the outfit highly enough. PM me if you want any more details.

That's not far from me, i'm in Wigan so only 30 mins up the road.

Might pop in this weekend and say hello and have a look around.

Thanks!

I called in to link you found today. Very helpful and nice guys. They have European blood lines aswell as American. Some from some good sponsors on here.
Got to hold one of their breeders, stunning!
If I was to get another I'd be excited to get from them.

I recommend the following:

1) Buying directly from a reputable breeder locally who specializes in chameleons.

2) Ordering online from a reputable chameleon breeder who specializes in chameleons and has experience successfully shipping animals.

3) ...last resort would be a Pet Store for me...I've yet to see a really reliable setup for proper husbandry for these creatures. Most horror stories or unhealthy chams seems to come from the Pet Stores.

In my case, I live in Manitoba, Canada where it is incredibly hard to come by a chameleon. Especially if you have a particular species or locale in mind. I have ordered 4 chameleons online through breeders. I did have an issue with 2 of my animals but it did not revolve around the delivery of the animal.
