hey fellow Cahmeleon lovers,

I just noticed LLL reptile has the 2x2x4 cages on sale again for $79 this time. I saw many threads about cages so i thought i would share this

great price on that size cage, wow!!! What do u guys think about these cages??? Does the screen support the lights well? B/c I know my screen right now is caving in a bit. Are they sturdy? Plz gimme ur advice I have 3 days to purchase before sale goes out

i have the same thing (not from them tho)
but i dont trust the screen to hold anything.
i have an old plastic 20 gal fish tank topper that i use on mine.
i just put it front to back to hold my dripper.
it also hangs off a bit so i have two clamp lights clamped on to it.

i also have two 1.5 inch think sticks that i have across the top of my cage
to hold the uvb light up, because i dont trust the screen.
they work well.

my basking light i have hanigng from the celing bu two hooks.

thats just what i do tho.

For a cage like that and only 80 bucks, it would be a good purchase. If you have issues with sagging, simply cut 2 smaller peices of wood to span across the top and place the lamps on them. Here ill try to do a little drawing from the top view heh

That's very amusing to me for some reason... your "drawing", that is..

Heheehe cute pic, thanx lol... Do u guys recomend building a wooden cage myself? I can't find where it says the best or sturdiest kind. It will be in doors in my bedroom.

if your handy and have the time then yea.
i work at menards so im always looking for things to build cages with.
youll prob save like $30-40.

if your not handy or do not have the time, then just buy one.

the plus with making one is that you can make it any size.
the bad part is you have to make it.

My dad is a very handy man and he said he'll help me build one. Is there a specific type of wood, screen, and bottom for the cage that u guys recomend?

Sobe is growing fast so we need to build it soon. Thank you!

My dad's very handy too. He made our cage out of fiberglass mess and pine I think. He simply used a window screen on a screw hinge for the door. There was some unusual material he used for the bottom. It was like used for countertops and he just happened to have it lying around. It's like a plastic coated wood or something. I forget the name, but it's easy to clean, sturdy, and looks nice. He cut some holes out on the top for dipping systems and lights. We stained the whole thing lightly. The best thing is, it's probably the only big cage you'll ever find that can fit on our plant bench (in our sun room). It works so well and looks great.

The construction and everything does look nice! :D

I think you could definatly use some more plants and vines and such in there tho! Lots of open space and only 1 real hiding spot in there :( It would also be great to have multiple levels for her to climb on under the basking area, so look into adding, well just more of everything!!

I know. The problem is I'm still in highschool and I've been trying to get my dad to let me buy some more plants and biovines to go in there, but he doesn't believe me when I say it needs more. He got two hibisci the other day to plant in the backyard and I asked him if I could put one in the chameleon cage, but he wouldn't let me . It's so frustrating sometimes. I'm the one who does all the research on these things, but he never listens to me. I'll try to talk him into letting me buy a Pothos and bio vine this weekend though. I also need something for my expected babies' cage. Hopefully those ficuses at the bottom will grow big soon. I just got the chameleon so I'm still trying to add some things.

I have a few of the LLL screen cages (they're really all the same) and I've made a few myself. $79 is a good price for that size and they support my lamps with no problems or sagging. If you don't like them sitting on top, you can get a clamp at Home Depot or Lowes for $5 and clamp it on the edge, you just might need a higher wattage bulb to get the basking temp right.

This is a great cage at a fantastic price. I will need a new cage soon and will probably purchase one of these or one of the larger mesh enclosures from cages|net.

I used ur basic 1x2 wood for 36x28x16 (need to go thicker for size)
and Fiberglass Mesh screen
Home depot had a variety of screen (Just remember the thing about metal screen and chams nails)
Also most folks that make there cage out of wood treat the wood
so that it supports getting wet often, (Polyurathane etc)

Okay I was going to order one today... But then I saw how inexpensive the reptariums are! What do you think... Buy a reptarium or one of these?? I have never used a reptarium ... They look like they may be kind of cheap or flemsy... any input?

I have the 65G Rep and its working well for me.
The only Con is that the zippered door is on the slim side.
I would rather it be on the wide side because of the location

I use Reptariums and they seem to do alright. They're very light but once you put plants in there they're not gonna fall over or even move easily. I've never used these ones from LLL before though, so I can't compare, although at this price I'm considering getting one ... for something -_- Any idea what the shipping on those cages is like? I'm in Orlando...

shipping should be between 10 and 20 dollars based on other things i shipped. if you want to know just put it in the shopping cart and shipping will automatically adjust

I have this cage too and I have no problems with sagging. I have ordered all my cages through them and love them. The shipping on that cage will be a little extra because if the size.
As far as someone posting about the reptariums.. I read that the crickets can eat holes in the mesh...? Has anyone experienced this with that cage? Reading that deterred me from buying them...
