Cage sale again

Cage sale

Hey thanks for posting this thread. It has been a while since I looked at the LLL reptile site. Anyways I just ordered a bunch more of those cages and some 48" repti-sun 5.0 bulbs.

I have not seen them put those on sale yet. They had the big one that's on sale now on sale a month ago for $74.99.

i have the same thing (not from them tho)
but i dont trust the screen to hold anything.
i have an old plastic 20 gal fish tank topper that i use on mine.
i just put it front to back to hold my dripper.
it also hangs off a bit so i have two clamp lights clamped on to it.

i also have two 1.5 inch think sticks that i have across the top of my cage
to hold the uvb light up, because i dont trust the screen.
they work well.

my basking light i have hanigng from the celing bu two hooks.

thats just what i do tho.

Is your old tank cover solid plastic that you have your lights shining through? or is it a plastic hood that can span the top of the cage?

Well I ended up not ordering that one from LLL today cause a guy who contacted me through craigslist brought me a barely used 65 gal reptarium and threw in a dome light for $20 and a couple of Beers over some herp conversation. Not bad. My female veiled was outgrowing her smaller screen enclosure. I just got her in there and she seems to like the new layout and extra space. Not to mention I actually like the way the screen doesn't let as much light out into the room, but you still have good visibility... Had to run some wood across the top to keep it from sagging, But for the most part I like it. Only complaint I would have would be the placement of the screen opening... They could have designed something a little more convenient.

Yeah those are annoying. What kind of UVB lamp do you have over the cage? a 5.0 might not provide enough output because of the type of screen.

I am using the 5.0 that I used on her other cage and I also put a RetiSun(I think?) Corkscrew style compact coil in a dome up there next to the 100w basking lamp... Which brings up something else...I have heard mixed reviews on these Compact Coils... Some say they cause eye issues (specifically in the beardie forums), But I have talked to well known breeders that use these... I don't know... I figure if it is dangerous it wont be as bad through this thick screen. It definitely needs the extra UV... I will probably end up getting a nice hood for a 10.0 this weekend.

And I hate to be off topic but what is the best way to drain a retarium?

The table is from IKEA, $18.

Elevate the corners so the water goes to the center.

Cut a hole in the middle. I used a shower drain filter and a funnel from the local grocery store and some silicon to hold it all together.

Dump the Coil lamp. The setup you see above killed my four month old panther (edit: the setup of lamps I am using, not the drainage). I didn't know any better... now I do and I warn anyone I see with those lamps. They are just bad news even if you give the proper distance. The lamp emits levels of UV bad for you and your cham.

Read this link, it explains a lot about UV for reptiles. It also explains the reason the compact lamps are bad.

I like your setup Summoner... Yeah... I hadn't been using it, just did to get the extra UV through the screen... But thanks for the info and the link... I am definitely getting rid of that thing gonna get a nice hood.
