hi everyone! So as I find myself getting more and more into this hobby I find myself wanting to get more ambilobes. Right now I have a male and female. Male is in an exoterra 36x18x36 and female is in a 16x16x30. She is still small only 3 months old. My question is can a male be housed in a 18x18x36. I searched on here and it seems 24x24x48 is the norm. But my question is how many of you have successfully kept a male in a 18x18x36? Is it even possible? I ask because I saw a male from kammerflauge that I am really interested in getting but I only have space for a 18x18x36 cage. Any thought would be helpful

2'2'4' is usually recommend for an adult panther or veiles because of the size they get. I feel like a 18"18"36" would be too small and the cham would feel to cramped

It all depends on age. If you used the smaller one for a baby I would think it would be okay but when he got older you would have to upgrade

I agree with Theveiled, the minimum is usually 2x2x4, 18x18x36 is pretty small, some panthers and veileds can get as long as 18 inches.

I agree. Look at it this way a 2x2x4 enclosure is the equivalent of apartment living for us. 16x16x36 would be like living out of a car.

My male veiled out grew his 16x30x16 inches W/H/D cage in 6 months the problem to me isnt height I feel like they need more width. So I upgraded to 44x45x22. Its tough though not a ton of good options in the wider sizes most of them just get taller.

A lot of the hight gain is because chameleons like hight because in the wild they live in trees so usually they feel safer in a taller cage

I tend to agree with this as long as the enclosure isn't too close to the floor. The added width could make it difficult to monitor things, as well as add challenges with lighting, but it can definitely add options for enclosure design. I would still think that a bit more height would be better, especially with females that would need laying bins. It could make it difficult for a chameleon to have a good temperature gradient range as well.

He basically is 3/4 of the length and width of the total cage already if your cage is only 16 in wide my guys already 12 inches long
