Calcium substrate for gutloading?

Ive know about those calcium substrate mainly used for geckos for a while now and it just occurred to me that since they are "edible" is it possible to use them when youre mixing up your feeder substrate? Wont that increase the calcium content of your feeder insects? Price wise they seem to be manageable compared to using calcium dust.

What do you guys think?

By mixing up your feeder substrate I mean mixing up the calcium substrate with the feeder food for extra calcium boost.

What does the calcium substrate look like? I bet it is just cheap oyster shell that you can by at any feed store. We use oyster shell for laying chickens to give them access to extra calcium. It looks like gravel.

I think most don't do this because some or most bugs don't thrive with overdosed calcium. This is why we dust right before feeding. The only feeder I use a substrate for is supers and it's oat meal. Dubias, crickets, silks, horns are bare tubs.

Hmmm... Interesting. I was hoping to pump up their calcium content that way I guess I would have to stick with dusting for now.
Thanks!
