calcium supp. question

these are the supplies that i ended up with after the pet stor visit and im pretty sure i need to go back, but just making sure

do i need to also buy calcium without D3? or are the vitamins enriched with enough calcium for regular dusting?

I've used Rep-cal without and with D3 and Herptivite for years.
Look for phosphorous, calcium, D3 and vitamin A in the ingredients on the label...these need to be in balance.

Also, if the vitamin A is prEformed it can build up in the system. Vitamin D3 from supplements can build up in the system too...so be careful not to overdo these.

I use repcal calcium with d3 and w/o d3. Also herptivite. No PHOS.

Schedule to which I use is below.

week 1:
mon-fri: calcium without d3
sat: none
sun: calcium with d3

week 2:
mon-fri: calcium without d3
sat: none
sun: vitamins

week 3:
repeat week 1

week 4:
repeat week 2

At the end if the month just start over.
Keep in mind it depends on the age. Mine is around 4 months and that is his schedule for now.

a rule of thumb, dusting gets lighter as you dust everyday. Don't seriously cover them. Just a light cover so you don't need to worry about anything

I think its suppose to be No phosphorous. as all my supplements say and I was recommended

Also the OP maker. You don't need that misting stuff once you run out. water warmed to hot and sprayed comes out warm. Alot cheaper

I will repost that link. btw you dont need that. Buy aqua pillows, they last longer.
I did click on the link, i see the supplements. Go to lllreptile.com and go to the store tab. click reptile and supplies. Go down to "vitamins, medicines, & cage cleaners" from there it should bring up the supplements, just read and choose if you want.

aqua pillows. You just rip one off and let water run on it and it absorbs. after awhile you just let water refill it then use it again. keep using until the stuff inside is all dry and you can hear it make noise when you shake it.

I dont like spongy/material type things. I use cotton balls because you can throw them away, or gel crystals.

Sponges/material type things get all bacteria-ey.

its not really spongey. Your way you would need to refill the water all the time. These just don't dry up so quick, they keep water for days.

What exactly is the material they are made from? I'd imagine any material would get gross and harbor bacteria if not cleaned often.

I dont mind putting new cotton balls in, I want my chams food to have clean water. Those gel crystals I was talking about dont need to be replaced very often either.

its a powder inside the pillow that takes in the water. Some kind of reaction, I suppose, that fills it up? After it can't hold anymore it dries out.

Feed the crickets properly (meaning you give them fresh vegetables and fruits) and you wont need any store bought cricket drink or cotton balls or any water source whatsoever.

skully23 said..."I think its suppose to be No phosphorous. as all my supplements say and I was recommended"...I re-read this and it is a little unclear...the powders should have no phosphorus....but what I should have said is that those four ingredients need to be in balance in the chameleon's total diet (including what they get from insects)...there is an imbalance in the insects as a rule, so dusting with a phos. free calcium at most feedings helps to make up for it.
