Camoflage myth carries on...

I started watching a documentary series on Netflix called "Natural Curiosities." It's a show where Sir David Attenborough uncovers the truth about strange animals. While he did say a chameleons color can change with its mood or remperature, he also said a chameleon can change its color to better blend in with its environment. I am wondering if this myth will carry on forever. How frustrating!

I mean, to an extent they can depending on species and the color range they can display but they definitely cannot mimic backgrounds and surroundings like an octopus can, for example. They can definitely subdue their coloring to make them harder to spot. This is a topic that must be worded carefully anytime it is brought up lol

I have heard that with their color change, they might accidentally mimic their surroundings because of adaptations, but that it is still not something that they do on purpose.

There was once that a leaf was laying on my cham's back and when she moved there was a different shade of brown in the exact shape and position of the leaf, but that's about it.
