Canned food - anyone tried them?

Just wondering if anyone has tried those canned food that they sell for reptiles (and amphibians)?

I was thinking about picking up some of the mealworms to add a bit of variety to it's diet.

It says that they have the same nutritional value as live (cost more though).

I have never tried them... I think that most chameleons would not even try to eat them since canned animals would not move...

when i first started i thought when people said "buy crickets" thats what they meant...

they don't work. chams need to eat live food...I have tried feeding my panther dead mealworms or the like by wiggling it etc and he never eats them but switch to a live one and he's on it

Chameleons are stimulated by movement and won't eat dead prey. Plus those bugs are covered in preservatives and not gutloaded so I don't think they offer the same nutrition as live bugs anyway. Your cham won't eat them anyway though since they won't be moving.

Thanks,

I didn't buy them as I was thinking the same about movement.

Was looking for a convenient source of food just in case I didn't have/couldn't get crickets for a couple of days.

I was thinking to mix them in with some fruit and veggies. Someone suggested mixind in mealworms to help attract him to the veggies. I guess I'll try that with some live mealworms first.
