Okay, so I am in need of a new car already. I just got my 'new' used car back in late April, and it's causing me so much trouble. I love my car, it's a 2001 Ford Escape, but with age in cars, comes problems. It's been recalled twice and had it's fixes, yet they ruined my engine while 'fixing' it. I am looking into another Escape, but I'm not getting used again. I'm considering a 2013 Ford Escape, if not a 2013 Toyota Rav4. I just need some opinions on it. I don't care what make it is. I just need a better car, something that will work well in snow, as there was just a blizzard in my area, and I'm moving to a bigger city in the spring for college. Any opinions I will greatly appreciate.

I have an Escape as well, actually my second and looking into getting another one! My husband sells used cars so we are able to go to the action and have a look at them all there, we were thinking a demo or very low kms! Good luck in. Your decision

You can get a this year car from enterprise rent a car.
they sell there cars cheaper normally, and all those 'pre-owned' cars from dealers that are this year or last year cars.. i can almost guarentee you were a rental car at some point anyway.

Well, with any car just be careful. I heard many cars (new included) were ruined by Sandy and they've been shipping them all over the country trying to get rid of them.

so true about Sandy, I have a friend who ended getting a car from Katrina, and the issues she had were awful, mold, rust, and electronics!!!!

i have an 05 nissan xterra and i love it. does absolutely great in the snow. never any problems with it. and it seems like your looking for an suv and it is one. they are realy great. although they do suck gas.

im a mechanic and id go with the toyota all the way.i dont think there a jeep for heavy going but any toyota wont steer you wrong.as for the ford we dont have escapes here in ireland so im not familiar with the model but the european fords are nothing to write home about really.if its a jeep your looking for a mitubishi pajero or toyota land cruiser are the best i think.there well up for anything you throw at them and very reliable

If the main aspect for having an SUV is snow driving and you don't need to haul a huge amount of stuff everyday, check out a Subaru. Highly rated as snow cars and they seem to run forever. First "automatic" allwheel drive type for me and I am impressed. My Forester is about 15 years old now and has spent its life in a SE AK rainforest bush town where salt air, mud, rain, ice, snow is the rule. Easier to park and manoever in a city too.

I just have to throw this in. The best car I ever had was a Honda CR-V. I loved that car! It never had any problems. As far as other models, my only advice is to stay away from new body styles. It is my personal opinion that the first year or two after they completely change a body style, there are kinks that need to be worked out. I bought a car once, brand new...and it actually turned out to be a lemon. People have always told me it was probably bc it was the first year that they had changed the model.

Anyway...good luck! New cars are great. They smell so good!!

My mother's fiance only has Subaru's very nice cars, but they don't really have an SUV that I am aware of. I must add, as much as I need something that will work well with snow, I'm not looking to buy from any car rental places, people rent the vehicle and trash it since they don't really own it and care for it as much as they would their own vehicle. Also something that will get above 20 miles to the gallon.

I love my Toyota rav4!

If I do go for a rav4 I will be getting one next year for sure. They come out with their newest model! They look really similar to the new Escapes! I was watching the news last weekend and they are already re-calling them all since their engines blowing up.

Hey , if it makes you feel any better ... I drive a '92 Mercury Sable wagon that's rusting below back doors and has starting issues :(

I used to drive a '91 Chevy Lumina that I couldn't get in or out of the driver side door, I used the passenger side or climbed through the window, the shocks were shot, so I could get it off the ground if I stopped fast enough, the blinkers didn't work and I couldn't crank down my window as well. I had to put in new power steering fluid daily. I am thankful for the car that I have, but I can't wait to upgrade with all of the issues my current car has.

Thats not true.
Enterprise cleans and cares for cares better than most car owners do.
All cars are required to have maintence done to it on schedule, and when its not done, the branch gets penalized for it.
Not to mention, when they sell the car, its detailed inside and out, and the oil is changed, given a tune up, etc. any damage to paint or metal is repaired.
any factory recalls that have been issued, are taken care of immediately.

Rental car companies get bad raps, but honestly, they care for their cars better than most of us do.

Also, people tend to care for the rental car more so than their own BECAUSE if they return the car with any damage to it, (including smoking in it, having pets in it) they are charged alot o fmoney to repair it, get it detailed, etc.
