Update: Carmelo has not had a single issue since grasshoppers are back on the menu! NOT ONE! I'm convinced that his upside down behavior was him in full-blown tantrum mode. Carmelo is King if the Branches!

Carmelo has started falling again. This time his grip is really weak. He can't climb up the tree swing. This is not related to grasshoppers. We have out of hoppers for 1 month. He is eating crickets and hornworms. I don't think a vet trip is warranted. I really think his age is a factor.

He has no grip in his back claws - none! When I place my finger between his rear claws, he makes no attempts to grip/ close his claws.

I took his bottom plants, branches and vines out earlier in the year due to him falling. The black plastic netting keeps him from falling to the bottom. It would be a 3 feet fall. The netting makes it less than a 1 foot fall from any area in his enclosure.I’m sorry.

I think he's just an older Cham. His claws had shed build up. I removed those clumps from his him claws. I thought the clump of shed was hindering his grip.I’m sorry that you’re both going thru whatever this is and wish I could offer more ideas. (((

Weight on older chams can be much harder. I go through it with Beman at 6.5 years old and even though he is only 10-15 grams over his weight it does make an impact. Your boy is showing major signs of edema as well. If I had to guess I am betting organ function is impacted and starting to possibly go into renal failure. I think you are now at the point of needing to make a decision on what you want to do for him. With his back legs not working it could take him quite a while to pass naturally. I know this is not a topic any of us like to talk about but I believe this is where you are at now with him.

I think I'll take him to the vet on Monday. Maybe anti- inflammation meds will help.
