im going to start looking for another cham, im not sure whether to get a carpet chameleon or a sambava, any ideas?

i won't be ready to get it for a few months but i just wanted to start looking now and find some options out there

chams

Both are really cool looking chams but i don't have any personal experience with either of them. I recently got an ambilobe panther and i think he's just the coolest little thing. From what i understand, carpets alot of times are wild caught chameleons, meaning they will have health problems off the bat and a vet visit will be in order. As for sambavas, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but they don't have as strict of a humidity requirement as carpets and other panthers do?

All in all, both are beautiful chameleons. I've been eyeing carpet chams for a long time now, and FL chams should have some ready in about 5-6 weeks. I'm going to try to snap one up as soon as theyre ready to buy! Theyre captive hatched!

yeah if its WC i was planning on that but i can't really seem to find many sambavas out there that are for sale because they get baught up fairly quick

100% Incorrect… Just because an animal is WC dose not mean that you are going to have problems right off the bat. I have had a female WC carpet for over a year now that has given several eggs and has had no problems at all. Not even a vet check up…

Yes you should have a poo check to make sure everything is looking good, and if there is an issue you can address it, however just because it is WC dose not mean that you are going to have problems.

My vote is for carpet. . . Great color, fun personality, small size and space requirements.

i know your not really supposed to handle them all that much but are they more willing to come out of there cage then a veiled? because my veiled absolutely hates coming out

and i think im gonna go with a carpet because i dont really have all that much space for it, and they are less expensive

snap

ouch! well Mr. Chad knows what he's talking about with WC considering i don't have much personal experience with WC chams, except for flapneck chams. THe one i bought got sick and died after like 2 days. I should have said "wc animals can have health problems off the bat, not will"... i'll shut up now :p Foot is in mouth! THanks for correcting that error on my part. I mean that.

No. But let's not give the impression that WC animals are a piece of cake either. A lot of WC chameleon require/demand a lot of rehydration upon arrival. Plus high, high humidity levels to maintain proper hydration. Odd feeder bugs that most people can't get. Dealing with icky parasites. Lots of peace and quiet. Most things a rookie keeper can't deal with properly, which is why I don't recommend WC animals to a novice.

No offense meant to the original thread starter. Just ask yourself if you are ready for all that.

I did not mean to sound harsh/rude or anything… Sorry if it came out that way. :p

Trace is right; they are a lot more work than a normal CB or CH animal. They are not for everyone but if you are willing to put in the time and work they can be very rewarding. But like I said before… Getting a WC dose not guarantee that you are going to have issues, like Rhettus you may have problems.

No offense was taken. I think it's good that you would try and correct any information that you feel is misleading. I agree with trace, that wild caught animals can be handful for a "young" chameleon keeper. Like they said, think about what you have time for and can manage IF the cham has health problems.

I would say Sambava. I love my Sambava he has the greatest personality.
He has really nice colors too. I like how mine can go from green to yellow and orange. I think thats really kool. Carpets although are one type of chameleon i would like to own in the future.

i like carpets more then panthers also. i also think that they are shy. is this correct?

They can be somewhat shy at times however once they are used to you and your day to day activity they begin to ignore you. Even still you should still have there enclosure planted more heavily than your veild or panther just incase they want to retreat and feel alone.

I have some carpets right now however they are not for sale. I will have some WC in the next week or two for sale. CB will lord willing be by the end of the year!
