Casque size

Hello! My male veiled chameleon is now about 10 months old. He is starting to get more meat on his bones but his casque and his size are still fairly small compared to other chams his size. Does anyone think it's a serious thing, or is it just his genes maybe?

Hello! We have a male Veiled too & you're right, your chams casque does look a little small. How long have you had him in your care & what's his supplement schedule / diet like?

I've had him since last April. I dust his insects with calcium with d3 once a week when I restock the insect keeper

I believe our chams should be getting calcium without D3 daily, calcium with D3 once a month & a herp multivite once a month.. seems like your current dust schedule is a little light. Are you gut loading the insects & what types do you use as feeders?

Holy, I did not know this! I usually just feed him crickets and sometimes was worms or hornworms for a treat. Every one in a while i also feed him super worms but he usually doesn't like those. I do gut load my crickets

Crickets are good as long as they're loaded & dusted before feeding. Ours really likes hornworms & silkworms, which is his main diet. It was a lot to learn, the intricate diet & nutritional requirements our lil guys have. If he hasn't gotten the proper nutrients throughout his growth spurts, that might explain why his casque is a tad stunted. His legs look straight & he doesn't look dehydrated, from what I can see, so that's good! If definitely add more dusts to your schedule going forward though!!

I'm definitely going to get more supplements for him! He really loves hornworms so I try to do those often but they're hard to come by where I live and when I order them in the winter, they're usually dead upon arrival

His casque is a bit small , if he is as old as you say he is. His supplementation schedule should be fixed as soon as possible. Also, what are you gut loading your feeders with?

I use a lot of apples, carrots, potatoes, bananas. Just a lot of various foods, I do a lot

@BabyCham96 Try adding some of the following as part of the food/gutloading for the insects...dandelion greens, kale, collards, squash, sweet red pepper, sweet potato, etc and go light on the banana.
